Kris 0 #26 September 7, 2003 QuoteI dont think this is the right post, but since its about student rigs i will ask the question. Does someone not licensed, but finished with AFF training need to be jumping a rig that is not equipped with an AAD? Until you have your A-license, you are still considered a student and should have a rig equipped with an AAD. Look it up, it's in the SIM.Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
kallend 2,026 #27 September 7, 2003 QuoteI know this sounds like a dumb question but are student rigs as "safe" as the other rigs worn by the more experienced jumpers? I do know they have a lower wing loading. Do they open as consistent as the gear worn by the experienced jumpers? Thanks for your reply. (2 jumps) The student rigs where I jump are all CYPRES equipped, recent Javelins with BOC deployment and Sabre II mains. Better than many of the rigs I see on experienced jumpers.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.

I think you should too, but it's not required in the BSRs - only suggested. After the RSL thread, I was sure that the BSRs required an RSL for students, but I've been searching the BSRs, FARs, et al, and I can find no requirements as such for either AAD or RSL. The only things I can find are an RSL is recommended for all experienced jumpers (SIM 5.3.F.2), and an AAD is encouraged for all licensed jumpers (SIM 5.3.G.2). Nothing about either in the student section (2.1.E). Personally, I think students should have both, so I kind of hope I'm wrong about this, but I don't think USPA requires them for students or experienced jumpers. Can anyone point out to me where it's required?

A functional automatic activation device that meets the manufacturer's recommended service schedule. [FB] That requirement can only be waivered by a meeting of the full board.Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
riddler 0 #30 September 8, 2003 Great - thanks for pointing out this one. Cypres always required, and RSL conditionally required, unless waived by supervising instructor.
