A wall

Recommended Posts

Ok here it goes.
Last year I started my staticline progression course. I made it all the way until my first freefall and then had to stop because my employer(DOD) decided to send me to a beach with no water. The whole time I was deployed all i thought about was skydiving. Since I have been back its been the same. I think about it all the time. I lurk this board and read all the magazines. For some reason I cant seem to get to the dropzone though. Its like have hit a wall or something. Its weird I want to go jump but I dont. Now i will say that i have jumped for my job a couple times since I have returned to the states but no freefall. Has anyone heard of this happening before? I need to just go do it, I know but that seems easier said than done.

I've actually just gotten over the same thing. My situation was a little different, I had made at least 9 jumps during this past summer. Around mid-August, I stopped jumping, in my case I was having a little anxiety and I haven't jumped since. I even lost touch with all my buddies here, but I've brought myself back and I've got the urge to go. If the weather gets better for this upcoming weekend I am going to make my recurrency jump.

I think you just need to figure out what is causing you not to go. Are you anxious? nervous?

Yeah I have heard of it.
Just like some people with 200-300 jumps think they are all of a sudden "SKYGODS"

You need to try and get with you old instructors or anyone else you might have hung out with at the time and goto the DZ. Maybe just to hang out the first time. That might help spark you into again. Videos could also do the trick.

I do know the longer you wait the harder it will be to get back into it. The other draw back is that the more uncurrent you get the more jumps it will take to get you back to where you were before you left.

I hope that might help you. Take Care bud.

I kinda did this too on statics. I would drive to the DZ hoping it would be too windy or it would go cloudy. So to get over it I booked into an AFF course overseas. Then it was set in stone and I had to go - and it was the best thing i have done.

Book it - then you can't hide.

My first bunch of jumps were (and still are) spread out over a long period of time. I'd often go a couple months between jumps, or even longer. Every time I'd go back to the DZ I'd be asking myself "why the hell am I here? This is just stupid." But I knew I liked skydiving so I'd get back on the plane and go again. Right after opening I'd always think to myself "Oh yeah, now I remember why I came back!"

I am (till I "retire" in a couple months) president of a skydiving club. AFF students tell me after their first jump that they will definitely be back do do it again, no matter what. When they tell me that, I always tell them to remember how they feel RIGHT NOW because they won't be feeling it in a week. If they want to make another skydive, they either have to do it right away or else just try to remember how they felt after the jump.

If you want to skydive, make yourself go to the DZ and do it. It's the only way. You have to force it sometimes. Just think about how you will feel after the jump and you'll remember why you want to do it.
