Repack Reminder AppleScript for Palm Desktop

Recommended Posts

For those of you who use Palm Desktop, you may note that it does not have the ability to repeat events more than 99 days ahead. This proved frustrating for me as I had to manually calculate the date for my next repack and set a reminder.

Over the Labor day weekend, I wrote an AppleScript to overcome this inconvenience.

This AppleScript first presents a dialog for you to enter the date when the repack was done. Then it displays the date for the next repack. After that, it creates a To Do entry on the date when the repack is due, and is set to remind you 9 days in advance. At the same time, it creates a memo to note the date of the last repack.

To use it, you need to already have Palm Desktop installed. Then open AppleScript, copy and paste the code and save it somewhere. In Palm Desktop, open the Scripts folder by selecting "Open Scripts Folder" on the AppleScript menu. Now move the AppleScript you've just saved into the folder "Scripts". To run the script, select it from the AppleScript menu in Palm Desktop.

Please feel free to use it and modify it to suit your needs. I've also included comments in the code for that purpose. If you find it useful, pass it along. I'd also appreciate comments, so please PM me.

edit: One other thing, in the Palm Desktop Preferences under Alarms, be sure that "Show alarm dialogs" is checked. Otherwise you will not get a notification. Opps:$:)
My other ride is the relative wind.
