DYEVOUT 0 #26 February 20, 2003 I bought the DVD simply because it has more exit and aerial footage than any other movie I have ever seen. Unfortunately it is rare to see more than 5 min. of "flight" in most action flicks. ----------------=8^)---------------------- "I think that was the wrong tennis court." billvon 2,991 #27 February 20, 2003 >Another part I liked was Mr. Baldwin's first BASE coming after he'd > made what seemed to be about 50 jumps. My first BASE jump was at about 100 jumps. I had just gotten my SL JM rating and therefore knew everything. At the bridge I met someone who made his first BASE jump after 7 skydives, and several with under 100. homer 0 #29 February 20, 2003 Its all bad acting and far fetched DZ drama. I guess thats why I like the move. It gets me motivated to jumps when the weather is bad. I remember being at FT. Bragg when some of the GK and wind tunnel seans were filmed. Something of interest I say the acta r that plays "Redline" a couple of weeks ago at work on skinamax doing a bad B-rated porn. blewaway5 0 #30 February 20, 2003 I dunno, maybe I'm way off here, it just seems to me that there's a world of difference between 50 jumps and 100 jumps. The learning curve is still pretty steep that early on, at least I think so. Either way, starting BASE at 7 jumps...holy crap!! I admit right up front I've never done a BASE jump, but from pretty much every line of thought I've ever heard that's a bit, um, premature. PhreeZone 20 #31 February 20, 2003 I know of someone that their first parachute jump was off the bridge. They were coached on the drive over on how to fly a canopy and how to BASE.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
kallend 2,026 #32 February 20, 2003 Quote Kim -- Sure it's full of holes -- it's fiction! Why 8-way? Maybe because it's 80% less expensive on the budget than 10-way. Also, It's a pretty large cast already even with only an 8-way adding in 3 more people to the mix (What? You forgot the camera flyer?) would have made writing the script a bit more difficult and, like I said, would have impacted the budget quite a bit. 23 days of shooting even at minimum scale would be at least an additional $35,000 for characters that wouldn't really add anything to the plot. I know a bunch of experienced 10-way folks that would have done it for the cost of the slot. Quote I have known people that have dropped out of real life to become dz bums. At one point I had even considered it myself. I still maintain a trailer at the dz I use as a team room. I know people that really have no business being on a team because they really just kind of suck, but they're determined to "belong". Yes, but our team mates like having me and Schindler around.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.

skybytch 273 #34 February 20, 2003 QuoteI'm tellin' ya, there's more truth to that movie than most skydivers are willing to admit because it's much "cooler" to put it down. It's way easier to put down what someone else did than it would be to go out and make your own skydiving related movie...
flyingferret 0 #35 February 20, 2003 Yeah, skydiving and BASE are really totally different. Most hardcore BASE jumpers never jump out of a plane. And stationary lauches call for totally different body control than 100knot plane exits. Not defending cutaway...just commenting. Plus the dude had a lot of tunnel time. Either way, I think the point is that the top later is there to make whuffos watch. The underlying layers which we see (most of us) are pretty accurate like Quade said.-- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI. One was "On Any Sunday" (Motocross) and "Endless Summer" (Surfing). Psuedo-documentary stuff can be pretty boring. Even skydivers won't sit a movie with just jump scenes. There has to be something a little more interesting or unique. To me, "War and Peace" was a snoozer. I like action/fiction movies.

heinsx3 0 #38 February 21, 2003 We did it for free...and we packed our own mains. They had a willing and very inexpensive 8 way team to do the "stunts" for them. I even had to act as I almost took out the last round as I docked last!!! Really, I was acting Got to do some good swoops from the casa as well. I'd do it again. skr 1 #47 February 21, 2003 >I have never seen such bad I liked the movie. I didn't go to it expecting much literal realism, but the plots and subplots and characters and atmosphere were based on real jumping. I even flashed back in a couple scenes to feeling that hot, humid Florida weather in similar situations. I thought they managed to get a lot of real protrayal through the Hollywood filter. Of course I thought the first jump course in Fandango really captured some stuff I've seen in real life too. Skr
