I think with a wingsuit that it is not such a large issue since WS fliers can see the open canopies, and fly around them if they have to.

But I could be wrong.

I've got about 80 HD jumps now, which I started after about 150 head up jumps. It was explained to me by Chris Lynch (FF Training Centre Sebastian) that the reason to do the head up first, apart from a good recovery position is that you get used to the initial body position when in a stand. i.e. no arch in body and good head position.
