smiles 0 #1 February 18, 2003 Ever have that jump where you forget to tighten your chest strap? I have to be extra diligent as my rig is a tad too big.... pic 1- loose chest strap heading out to plane...rig not centered on my back when dumping... pic 2- gotta luv those soft openings (triathlon)...get wacked under chin with cheststrap... booooooo! skygod7777 0 #2 February 18, 2003 well this is not only caused by a loose chest strap. what would make you chest strap hit you is the harness being too long. later
blewaway5 0 #3 February 18, 2003 you beat me to it on that call, kelly. I'd have to say try getting a harness that fits a little better first chance you get. Not sure from what I see how bad that fit is, but either way, that's got to be a pain in the ass. Truman Sparks for President

I do have to keep chest stap & leg straps real tight... or else. Smiles
skycat 0 #5 February 18, 2003 It's kind of hard to tell from the pics but it looks like your leg straps might have moved down your legs a bit (the sitting pic). He is a small girl trick that works for trying to make student gear fit. Tie your leg straps together with a pull-up cord at your crotch. (see picture) After they are tied together just push the knot and excess under on of the legstraps. The rig I have on is Derek's 2nd rig which is a J4 with a 20 inch MLW, I wear a 15 inch MLW, but as you can see the pull up cord does help the legstraps stay in place. Fly it like you stole it! hookitt 1 #6 February 18, 2003 That trick only keeps the rig ON you.... it doesn't help from keeping the chest strap from Choking you out. - -My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
skycat 0 #7 February 18, 2003 Actually it does help, since the laterals can't creap around the front bringing the sides of the leg straps with them, so on opening you can't "sit down" like she is in that last picture. It also helps prevent the rig from sliding around on your back. Trust me on this, I did student status with a J7 with 19 inch MLW, if this helped this problem and several others for me and every other girl who has tried it, I bet it will help her out a lot. Now if only it would have fixed the issue of the Yoke being so wide it slipped off my shoulders in freefall and especially tracking. The real fix is a rig that fits, but when that isn't an option little fixes can make a difference. edited to add pic of sitting position. Fly it like you stole it! I always tie em together like that with my *smaller students* (and other instructors *smaller* students. The rigs are much different than that since the leg straps can be tightened up much more even though the lift web is long and sits horizontal like in your picture. - -My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... smiles 0 #9 February 18, 2003 Hey...worth a try, seen tons of freeflyers tying leg straps together like that.... Quote Now if only it would have fixed the issue of the Yoke being so wide it slipped off my shoulders in freefall and especially tracking. Exactly!!!!!my gear was made for 26 ft. round & 220 sq. ft. main!!! The racer fits me beauty...(not rigger friendly) my partner will be downsizing soon so things will work out eventually!!
