tb62871 0 #1 August 21, 2003 I found this in the tech section of a raceing magazine , but saafe helmet removal is crucial to anyone that wears one.http://www.hatsoff.info/index.html --TB Welcome my friends to the show that never ends.
mr2mk1g 10 #2 August 21, 2003 looks cool, but how do you get the thing up there in the first place?
tb62871 0 #3 August 21, 2003 A quote from the article. The bladder can be folded into any convinent shape for any helmettype. Several helmet companies are reportedly looking into including the system in the manufacturing process. A piece of the existing foam rubber would be removed to give the bladder a "nest". Some commpanies have considered molding a small indentation into the inner liner. --TB Welcome my friends to the show that never ends.
mr2mk1g 10 #4 August 21, 2003 my bad - red the article now. Guess you just have to count on the paramedics / airfield knowing what the hell one is and having a bladder to use it. Lets hope it becomes so common place that all rescue services are ready for them.
tb62871 0 #5 August 21, 2003 Every page that I saw on their site had a spot that said Paramedics click here. We seem to have quite a few first responders here, and if they don't already know about the system I hope they will take a few munites to look at the site and share the info with everyone they work with. --TB Welcome my friends to the show that never ends. riddler 0 #7 August 23, 2003 Hmm - combined with a compressed air cartridge and quick release system, might be good for a camera helmet. One button and your helmet pops off. Of course, I don't know how good it is to have comressed air cartridge that close to your head. Just thinking like an engineer.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. And if that button gets hit during a hard opening, you either choke as your neck is mashed into the chinstrap or watch your camera helmet wrap around some lines as it pops off. That sounds like one of those things that could do a lot more harm than good. One of the good things about requring an external device to inflate it that it's impossible to fire it accidentally. In any case, I'd think you're better off with a helmet (like a rear entry) that can simply be lifted off your head once released.
tb62871 0 #9 August 25, 2003 The inflation device is either a blood pressure inflation bulb or an external compressed air source. It is not contained in the helmet. --TB Welcome my friends to the show that never ends.
WayneRATS 0 #10 August 26, 2003 one problem with the air cartidge, lack of external pressure at altitude.. and maybe even the bag itself if theres a little air in it (theres bound to be even a smidgen) it'll inflate a little when your at the top...------------------------ Can You Ere Me Now?
