eyeinthesky 0 #1 January 7, 2003 i am a student going through static progression, having 11 jumps and in 30 sec delays. so far ( i know im junxing myself!), i have never had to repeat a jump, passing to the next jump level every time. most of the jumpers there have to repeat stuff; most every one of them. am i just lucky, or is it pretty common to breeze through it without a holdback jump? thanks! doug never let anyone in your will pack your chute!hey, i was stupid before stupid was cool! SkydiveMonkey 0 #2 January 7, 2003 It's not common, but it happens. I've heard of at least 2 people passing RAPS with the minimum number of jumps.____________________ Say no to subliminal messages
n2skdvn 0 #3 January 7, 2003 i went through s.l. with no repeats 430 jumps ago... some people are naturals just remember be safe! and relax... if my calculations are correct SLINKY + ESCULATOR = EVERLASTING FUN my site
f1freak 0 #4 January 7, 2003 I went through S/L progression also... I was the same way, i just flew right through it, had my A in less than a month (just jumping on weekends...) Way cool.....HAVE FUN... ...JUST DONT DIE
Sire 0 #5 January 7, 2003 I got through static line in 10 jumps. Really some people just have better natural muscle control etc. But I'm still a worse flyer than my bro-in-law who has ~the same number of jumps as me, and took 13 jumps to get through static-line. you still have to practice some things. Casch 0 #6 January 7, 2003 I repeated only my last PRCP. And for a good reason: In previous jumps my JM has been 1 of 2 people. On this jump, it was someone I had never met before and he made me nervous. He didn't know my skills and he kept bothering me in the plane telling me what to do when I already knew what to do (I did it right the first two times right?). So instead of being able to go through the jump in my head, I was thinking about how nice it would have been if this guy would just shut his trap and let me do what I needed to do. Now I don't know how this happened but the bag came out of the container a lot faster than previous jumps and when I reached for the handle, all I could find were flaps. I looked for a few more seconds until the canopy opened. I was soooo PISSED! But I've never had any stability problems that held me back. I do think there are very skilled people that can keep a very cool mind, and have very good muscle control/memory. And some people that are developing that muscle control in freefall . I know about a lady that finally got to her freefall jumps after 16 jumps...

This is when the instructor is holding the excess static line in his hands and he does not let it all pay out and open the container. He/she effectively holds some of the static line so "they" are initiating the deployment and not the plane attachment of the SL, thus the term "short line". From what I understand some instructors will do this if a student is becoming unstable on exit. Not to say you were unstable though.
nacmacfeegle 0 #8 January 7, 2003 "got through static line in 10 jumps. " Thats a short progression! In the old days S/L was about 27 jumps minimum! 2x no working s/l 3x prcps 1x clear and pull 3x 5 second delays 3x 10 second delays 3x15 second delays etc, etc, etc.... Even most accelerated freefall training has 8 levels, plus consolidations.....-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Skystorm 0 #9 January 7, 2003 I got through my s/l progression ok, but had some problems with my freefall progression. Couldn't get the 180turns right. Had to do 4 jumps before I got it right. Since then, no hang ups. Gene Police: "YOU!! Out of the pool, NOW!!!"
andy1 0 #10 January 7, 2003 Yep! I'm on 28 jumps and only at 30 sec delay. The progression is almost as you desribe it. 'Course, I've had to repeat one or two jumps, mostly because of 90-180 turns while doing 7-10 sec delays, but also because I haven't managed to track well enough yet
