fudd 0 #1 August 17, 2003 First jump I made with my 4-way team on saturday I hit the side of the plane (AN-28 tailgate) with my head. We did a sidebody exit, and I am point exiting sideways inside the plane. As my head hit the side of the plane, my neck was bent backwards almost 90 degrees. I heard the sounds of stuff in my neck crunching. I got pretty dizzy, and were afraid of blacking out. I thought about pulling straight away in fear of losing consciouness, but decided I were OK enough to complete the dive. I were pretty dizzy when I landed, and had some troubble breathing for a while. Did one more jump at the end of the day, and did four competition jumps today. My neck is still pretty sore, hurting a bit. Wonder if it might be a good idea to get an X-ray? I'll post the video when I get it from the cameraguy. lessons to be learned: - Hard shell helmets is a good thing. I'm pretty sure I would have got knocked unconcious with a frap hat. - I didn't need my cypres this jump either, but it was a close call. - Hitting the plane with the head is dangerous. I'm going to be more careful with exits like this in the future. There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't. diverdriver 5 #2 August 18, 2003 Dude! You haven't gone to a doctor already? And you went to make more jumps? [biting lip] Ok....go to the doctor now and get examined. Have x-rays. You could have a concusion. Whiplash injuries usually don't show up for a couple days possibly. You need to get checked out by a professional. Please go. Hope you feel better. Man....got dizzy and then made another jump that day? Not exactly what I would have done my friend.Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

ernokaikkonen 0 #4 August 19, 2003 I've seen a couple of AN-28s, some of the tailgates were modified for skydiving, others were not. See attachment: The original bits of the plane are drawn in black. Those leave a nice "L"-shape that you can hit with various body parts. Now some of the planes were modified with a piece of plywood(drawn in red), that effectively smooths out the wall, so if you hit it on exit you'll just slide down. What was the one you jumped like? fudd 0 #5 August 19, 2003 OK, went to the doctor yesterday. He said all my symptoms were identical to car crash victims, but that I should probably recover fully. He insisted on taking X-rays, and told me to seek help again immediatly if it got worse. Getting the x-ray on thursday. My neck hasn't gotten significantly better, but not worse either. Guessing it will take a couple of weeks for it to get back to normal There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
