cgross 1 #1 November 23, 2002 All the fatal stat I have seen have not included this years stats. Does anyone know the current death toll in the U.S. in 2002 including the 2 possible fatalities today?
PhreeZone 20 #2 November 23, 2002 With todays... 28. I think.... Here's a real quick break down. The weird includes unknown info on jumps, the JFTC, and the water cutaway. I'm assuming both from today () are Canopy Collision. Lowturns = 9 Shit Happens/gear issues = 4 Nothing out = 1 Stunts = 1 Two out = 1 Freefall/Plane/Canopy Collision = 7 Suicide/medical= 1 Weird/Unknown = 4 Students = 3 Experienced = 25 MANY thanks to Craig Paxon for hosting and everything for http://www.skydivingfatalities.info/. Looks like low turns and then collisions are the top two (which may change if we find out more about the weird catagory). Know what's hardest to acknowledge? Low turns and collisions, for the most part, are pilot errors. Which, at least to me, means they are avoidable. Which sucks. Plain and simple, it just sucks. PhreeZone 20 #5 November 23, 2002 The sd thing about canopy collisions are that most times it kills two people instead of just one like a hook turn does. One person making a slight move early on to avoid it usually is all it takes too. Minus the 3 canopy collisions this year.. .there would be 5 less fatilities and 5 more jumpers here today still. Keep your head on a swivel out there folks...Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
DivaSkyChick 0 #6 November 23, 2002 That's why, at 350 jumps, I'm still quite happy to land in the alternate landing area. Nice, straight in approaches with just the occasional freaked out student to worry about! --- www.facebook.com/mandyhamptonfitch
