bdev 0 #1 August 8, 2003 Can people advise of their personal gear checks...ie. what you check/which order etc... Having just done AFF, I have my own little routine of checking leg straps/chest straps etc once in the harness, but what should I be checking before I put the harness on (cypress/pin/etc) What should a full pin check involve for example ? - should I check anything on the reserve? What's your routine?--- One life...Use it.
CrazyIvan 0 #2 August 8, 2003 My routine is: Front of the rig top to bottom Back of the rig top to bottom If you 'develop' a routine, stick to it, that way you'll never skip anything, but also PAY ATTENTION, don't do it mechanically.__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you. beavdog 0 #3 August 8, 2003 we usually have other people give us our gear checks. I start at the left shoulder checking the three rings and work my way down making sure the chest strap is routed correctly, velcro is secure on reserve handle and leg straps routed right. I then move to the other side and repeat. I turn them around, check main pin and that pc is cocked. I then check to make sure pc and bridle are routed correctly and finally check reserve pin and AAD. Hope that all makes sense. It takes 2 min but is worth the effort! Here's to the Breezes that blows through the Trezzez.....

billvon 2,990 #5 August 8, 2003 For me: I have a Reflex and cannot check my reserve pin once it's on. I do a visual on the ground before I put the rig on: -Main pin OK -PC cocked -Bridle routed -PC handle in place -Cypres on -Reserve pin in place -Riser covers closed -Handles in place Then I do a final one in the plane a few minutes before exit, all by touch: -Main pin cover closed -PC handle in place -Both leg straps tight and threaded -Cutaway and reserve handles in place -Chest strap threaded -3-rings attached -riser covers closed -jumpsuit zipped -Altimeter says something sane -Other stuff (swoop cords, sleeves) on I leave the helmet until a few moments before exit; it's hard to forget that. jeremyneas 0 #6 August 8, 2003 An easy way to remember your "pre-jump" check is the system of "3 of 3's" While someone is giving you a final pin check. check both THREE ring circus's for routing check all THREE harness straps for proper routing (chest and both leg) check all THREE handles to make sure they are in place. quick, easy, and a snap to remember! qtensassy 0 #7 August 14, 2003 Just before exit I also check (in addition to the set of 3's): suit is zipped up helmet is buckled verify my altimeter is reading the correct altitude booties are zipped and snapped then I make sure I am mentally relaxed and ready for the dive. On the ground before gearing up: Cypress on audible altimeter on main pin and closing loop pc cocked bridal routed properly bridal not looped around hackey pc (in boc) will come out smoothly reserve pin and closing loop rigger seal risers covered (on the back) reserve risers cut away handle reserve handle chest strap leg straps 3 rings
sburkart 0 #8 August 15, 2003 I'm surprised no one has mentioned: Main lift web adjuster. If it exists, of course. I don't remember ever looking at the web in there, or anyone telling me to... --oo
billvon 2,990 #9 August 15, 2003 >Main lift web adjuster. Generally this applies only to student gear, so it's sort of a specialized JM check.
SkydiverRick 0 #10 August 15, 2003 QuoteThis is the front side of the flight plan I have used for students. Derek I like your checklist. I also run the reserve cable back and forth through the housing to insure continuity and that it moves freely. never pull low......unless you are
