skydivegirl 0 #1 June 11, 2003 QuoteWe will be holding a CRW skills camp at Skydive Alabama June 28 and 29. Take this opportunity to learn or brush up on basic canopy relative work procedures. Participants will need to bring long pants, long-sleeve shirts, socks and sturdy tennis shoes. Durable hook knives and appropriate (non-fullface) helmets are recommended. Material for building cross-connectors will be provided and their use is mandatory. Our goal is to develop a sense of canopy compatibility in preparation for putting up a big, state-record stack later this year. If interested, reply as soon as possible to Mark (treasuresfound@earthlink.net) with your name, weight and canopy type (including manufacturer, number of cells and square footage). A limited number of CRW canopies will be available that weekend. Thanks, Curley CREW isn't dead, it is just that you are all too scared...! PhreeZone 20 #2 June 11, 2003 Crossconnectors are manditoy? Thats odd since I've never used them on any of the stuff I've been on and I've never seen them on any of the rigs that we've used to build 6 way stacks. Could you find the reason why they are requiring crossconnectors?Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
SkydiveAlabama 0 #3 June 11, 2003 I think it is that our canpy sizes are not going to be ideal for the event, therefore we can make up for the tension with them. Then again what in the hell do I know, I've got very few CRW jumps. Mark is heading up the event, I will also be there to learn.
parachutist 2 #4 June 16, 2003 QuoteCrossconnectors are manditoy? Thats odd since I've never used them on any of the stuff I've been on and I've never seen them on any of the rigs that we've used to build 6 way stacks. Could you find the reason why they are requiring crossconnectors? Well there are Stacks and there are Planes. For a Stack, obviously there is no need to use cross connectors because your feet will not be anywhere near the cross connectors (mounted at top of risers). In a stack, your feet will be up at the area where suspension lines connect to the canopy. For a Plane your feet will be down at the level of the slider (of the person who docked on you). In this case, cross connectors are useful because you can just hook your feet under them and you will remain in place. If you did not have cross connectors while piloting a bi-plane, and you make a turn, you will de-plane (the bottom person will get slung out away from you). In a Plane, if the person below you is holding onto your feet, then it simulates cross connectors... the bottom person can hold you in place. This works great for small Planes (Bi-planes, Tri-planes) but there is a problem with this idea when you get several canopies into a Plane: You want the participants of the Plane to be able to use their controls. If their hands are busy holding onto the feet of the people above them, then they will not be able to use their controls. So in this case cross connectors are very useful.
