QuoteIs being under a canopy unconscious a good thing? I'm afraid of being unconscious under canopy and hitting a building and being paralyzed because of it.
I don't understand. Your profile says you are a skydiver with over 500 jumps. Why are you so afraid of being unconscious? I gather something happened to you? What? Wouldn't it be a good idea to focus on preventing that situation?
People do forget to pull. It happens when they lose altitude awareness or are focusing on "fixing" a problem with their main until they hit the ground.
Please don't take this the wrong way, but I'm only replying because your question and responses are a little scary. I guess I just don't understand what you're thinking...?
You would rather hit the ground than land unconscious under an open reserve...

Just like I thought to myself "My shoulder will never pop out in freefall causing me to need surgery."
Never say never, especially in this sport. As forgiving as it may seem, shit can and will go wrong for most of us at least once.
IMHO, a Cypress is a great addition to anyones kit, they should just jump like they don't have it though.
Also, how can anyone possibly say what the jumper they are in the air with is going to do at any given moment? Granted, most of us know the people we jump with rather well, but you never know when someone is going to cork and slam right into your face knocking you out.

QuoteWhy is that because we are trying to point out reasons that having a Cypress is a good thing to someone?
No. Because in my opinion Skyvixen is being intentionally provocative in the way her statements are being made. I think she fully understands what people are saying and that she keeps restating them in a provocative way to generate more posts.

QuoteHey Jimmy .. YOU KNOW ME.. always starting trouble
Roger THAT !!! Vixen
But here is a FACT... If I witness a collision in freefall, ( and i am quite attentive to what is going on in freefall) then I will chase... and Chase hard,, to get to either of your handles....... I will bust my pull altitude to get to you, or anyone,, if I am closing in on them... If I know for a fact,, that you are "unarmed",, I might push til MY cypress fires....
If you are out of it,, and "armed" your reserve firing,, would have me pulling silver.... ( I 'd stay away from my main handle altogether).... so now 2 people are down and dirty......lets avoid all of these scenarios,, entirely... just say NO to collisions!!!

QuoteI'm going to sell my cypress cause I never turn it on. And I don't want to be unconscious under canopy and take the chance of being paralyzed
i just took a look in your profile - either you made it all up or you are just damn lucky that you survived it this far!
i guess you are just talking major BS!

Well, heck, just decide to never have a mal and you don't need a cypres _or_ a reserve!

A relatively lightly loaded Ram-Air reserve will not necessarily kick the living shit out of you if you are unconscious and land just to let you know. I've seen it happen twice in ten years and both instances the individual was just fine after waking up minus some scratches and bruises.

Well....she is a cute skyvixen.
So I would chase her around the packing area, around the camp fire, around the mulberry bush...
But never would I chase her below 2000'. Below 2000' and above 100mph...I have no friends!
I think it would be a lot safer and easier to help her
remember to turn her CYPRES on. If she does not
want it turned on....she's on her own.
I have been in this situation....me and my friend of 10 years are doing a 2-way from 4000' after I tossed
out some IAD students. We have done this dive from as low as 2500'( yes a 2-way). Neither of us has
an AAD. We left the A/C in a compressed accordion...I brought my feet up on my ass as I was
diving...I hit my friend square in the nose(I was not aware of this at the time) with my left sneaker. We come of ok...then, major tension and fast turning. I let go..and turn to see "What's up!" He is holding his face in his hands and sliding very fast away from me. We now have a lot of horizontal separation and are passing through 3000'. I guess I can get to him
buy 2000' at best( we are on the same level so I can't really dive hard). I decided to let it play out...don't want to get their just as he opens. So he
comes around and figures out he is in freefall and deploys his main(I was very happy to see nylon).

QuoteYou have made no sense.. what does my profile have to do with this
Ha! No you make no sense. For someone with over 500 jumps, you seem kind of oblivious.
I'm not sure what your point is, but maybe you can share it with your good friend jimmy, so he can stop worrying about saving your life.
Cypreses are not crap.
People who would rather bounce than have an AAD pop don't really make a whole lot of sense to me and I would just like to see them safer thats all...

My question to you is what happens if you by chance live through the terminal bounce and are a drooler for the rest of your days?
NO ONE SAID rely on your cypress, but we sure would rather see it save your unconscious rear end than not. Hell, I'll take care of you.

QuoteSo your saying I should rely on my cypress, and if I am and unconscious, hit something become paralyzed YOU will take care me
I don't understand why you started a thread on this. You've obviously made your decision.

Boy is it easy to stir things up around here. The odds of needing your cypress are VERY low

If you don't wake up odds are your going to be an impact crater. With out a Cypres and your unconsious at 700 feet your as good as dead. With an active Cypres if your knocked out at 700 feet you have a chance. Personally I think some chance is better then no chance.
You pays your money and takes your chances...
I'd be more worried about landing your main injured then landing the reserve knocked out.
And tomorrow is a mystery
