jlmiracle 7 #77 July 17, 2003 I don't think Andie787 was saying you should rely on your cypres. You should only rely on yourself. Cypres is man made and you should be been told during your student training to NEVER rely on yor RSL, and or AAD. You are responsible for your own safety. If you don't feel a cypres is good for you, than don't jump with one. I jump with one because if for any reason I am unconscious, IMO, i have a better chance of survival, than with out a cypres. There are people who have been paralyzed in car accidents, does that mean you should not wear a seat belt just in case you are in a car accident and get paralyzed? Just my 2 cents. freakydiver 0 #78 July 17, 2003 True the odds are low - but hell, I haven't been involved in a car accident yet and I've been driving for 12 years now. The odds are getting higher as more jumpers are being brought into the sport - don't fool yourself of that fact. Anyhow - please be safe out there as I already have too many things to worry about And you are damn right its easy to stir things up around here - we all just care about you. -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --

SkydiverRick 0 #80 July 17, 2003 QuoteSo your saying I should rely on my cypress, and if I am and unconscious, hit something become paralyzed YOU will take care me Sponge baths come to mind. never pull low......unless you are
freakydiver 0 #81 July 17, 2003 Apples and oranges. My grandma was thrown out of her car for not having her seatbelt on. They found her 300 yards away from the wreckage, she died after 9 weeks in not so cheap intensive care. My grandpa had his belt on, he lived for 7 years. Get a car with seats that are bolted down. Get a cypress too! -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --

mirage62 0 #84 July 17, 2003 QuoteNice gester.. But I do believe that everything happens for a reason. I'm not trying to increase my odds of death.. QuoteCypress is perfect for new jumpers..Quote Oh good, I'll get rid of mine now, or is seven years still new? (actually it is) guess I'll keep it I fear more than anything..... being injured... I'd rather die doing what I love to do than spending my life in a wheel chair. Boy is it easy to stir things up around here. The odds of needing your cypress are VERY lowKevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little
 jlmiracle 7 #85 July 17, 2003 QuoteWeird how u mentioned car accident.. There are so many things in skydiving that will either save you or kill you or both. I choose to jump with a cypres. I have made about 1/2 my total jumps without a cypres. I decided to get one when I started doing big-ways and then I got my AFF rating and will not do AFF without a rig with a Cypres in it because students get excited and do stuff. Being in a round (not Para C type) in wind is no fun. I realize the thread has advanced, but what they hey. I have about 100 cheapo (i.e. modified flat circular) jumps, some in winds that definitely had me backing up at a pretty good clip, including backing up into a fence. When I was jumping cheapos, the idea was to look at your drift line (the old "what spot isn't moving" trick) and pick an acceptable landing spot that was on the line. Not a close one, not a good one, not the airport. Choose from what's available, not what you want. The fact that I made most (but not all) of those in Texas helped, too -- lots of outs. But about 20 were in New England, at a pretty tight drop zone. We spotted really well there. Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it.
