Hardest level of AFF

Recommended Posts

For me the hardest was Level 6 when I had to track for the first time----I felt so wobbly and kept thinking "I suck at this!!!!". I became so obsessed with trying to track properly that I misread my instructor giving me the pull signal, lost altitude awareness for the first time, pulled low, and had to land off the dropzone. That jump scared the crap out of me---really scared the crap out of me because there were too many mistakes on my part and too many "firsts". I thought I was the black sheep of the dropzone for a while, but other jumpers and instructors were really supportive and just kept telling me "You can do it". It took me two weeks to work up the courage to get back in the air and repeat the jump. I nailed it the second time.

It all depends on you and your instructors. Some people are good at various parts of free-fall, others aren't as good. Some dropzones demand perfection (at the DZ I started, 95% of jumpers would fail at least one level), while others seem to crank students through with few failures.

I've heard that levels 3 and 4 get the most failures - that's when they start letting go of you and you are expected to start flying on your own, but I don't know.

Personally, I failed level 3 twice. Spinning problem due to bad leg symmetry. I went to the wind tunnel and had no problem after that - passed all my levels easily and quickly.

Cat C-2 was by far the hardest, but cat A was the scariest. On C-2 I was trying to fly with my head in my butt, so it took me three times to pass it. My hop n pop was also difficult for me, get ready to laugh, I couldn't figure out how to get out the door....:P
