emerald coast question

Recommended Posts

meh, I went there once. I had a hundred jumps and had never been to a different DZ. I went to the office and filled out all of the paperwork the office girl gave me, rented a rig (junk) and boarded the airplane. At about 10,000ft the pilot yelled "who's Lopez? You didn't fill out a waver!" He then proceeded to tell me that if I jumped from his airplane that I had better not kill myself.
After an uneventful jump and landing, the DZO came out to the landing area to scream at me in front everyone at the DZ. He seemed to think it was my fault and not that of his office personnel that I didn't fill out all of the proper paperwork.
Needless to say I was very embarrased. I will never go there again, and I will tell everyone I know not to go there.

Emerald Coast is a GREAT DZ. I've been to about 14 DZs or so and it ranks up there in the top 5. The beach jumps are true, and very awesome!! Here's some pix:
Beach Jumps

The people are extremely friendly and the landing area is absolutely huge. Be sure to ask about discounts because I think college student or military ID gets you like a $165 tandem but don't quote me on that.

If you have any questions about it PM me because this is my home DZ now.

Towerrat--sorry you had one bad experience there. With all due respect, you should have known there would be a waiver. However if the pilot truely did respond like that it was innappropriate and I apologize for him. The DZO coming out to scream at you doesn't sound like the DZO I know, and he's been there for a while. I think you may have been putting it out of proportion. I would encourage you to come back out because I have not seen anything of the like out there since I have been there. True, the rental gear is a little old, but it's absolutely current, safe, and in perfect shape.

I mostly just lurk the forums, but I felt this thread was worth responding to.

Emerald Coast is my home dz. I would definitely recommend it for doing your tandems. I have been jumping there for a couple of years and I feel it is a very safety oriented dz. I'm sure that you will have a fun jump! If you have any questions just call the dz @ 251-986-5618. We can always use more girls around the dz! Welcome to our playground!

As far as the person that had a bad experience...I'm so sorry that you feel that way about Emerald Coast! I wonder how long ago this happened. A couple of years ago we had some changes in staff. We have a new manifest and, as John4455 said, we have a new dzo. I can't imagine our current staff doing something like you talked about.

***not to be nasty, but you were not there. As I've already stated, the whole situation was enough that I'll tell everyone I run into not to go there.Yes, that's extreme, but so was nastiness I encountered there. This little "incident" was approx. 3 years ago. Also, as I've already stated, I had only 100 jumps and had never been to another DZ. I filled out all of the paperwork given to me at manifest. As far as I'm concerned, it's not my job as a new skydiver to make sure she's done her job correctly.
