dbattman 0 #1 April 26, 2004 Anyplace out there running a DC-3 for the season? I've always wanted to jump one.
AggieDave 6 #2 April 26, 2004 Eloy has one, thats where I jumped one, call them up to see if its there during the summer.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
pdj6p 0 #3 April 26, 2004 skydive Utah in tooele has a d.c. 3. and thiers gets to altitude a lot faster than eloy's. Death is so permanant, and I'm just not ready for that kind of committment.

wingnut 0 #6 April 28, 2004 QuoteNow thats something you'll only want to do ONCE i much prefer the 3 to the tbone my dz has.... the dc-3 has lots of room and gets to altitude (165k msl) (12,5k agl) in 15 minutes............ actually speaking if the dc-3 had a little bigger door i would mch prefer it to a super otter!!!! but that is just the "SOUTHERN CROSS" DC-3 i'm talkng about... the one in eloy is way way slower...... never jumped the one from elsinore but i'm betting it is too......... ______________________________________ "i have no reader's digest version"
wzettler 0 #7 April 28, 2004 Well tell your DZO to buy one here: clicky clicky edited to say: the second one is even set up for jumping already!! I think when Jesus said "love your enemy" he probably meant don't kill them.
wingnut 0 #8 April 29, 2004 QuoteWell tell your DZO to buy one here dzo has no intention to buy one as our chief pilot ownes the southern cross dc-3.... ______________________________________ "i have no reader's digest version"
schwede 0 #9 April 29, 2004 Southern Cross - the legend. I remember it from my first visit to Phoenix in Z-hills 1989 - huge aircraft, in comparison with the porter we had at our DZ. But also a little bit scary to get in to this aircraft as you could see the framework on the inside.. Figuring if it would hold together before we got enough altitude to get out. Does anyone know where Mister Douglas ended up? That was a nice piece of aircraft - with rock'n roll out of the loudspeakers up to exit altitude...Schwede "Das Leben ist schön, nicht immer aber immer öfter"
Nutz 0 #10 April 29, 2004 Mister Douglas is in Tullahomah, TN with a broken engine. They have not had the money to repair it. "Don't! Get! Eliminated!"
airdvr 210 #11 April 29, 2004 What I remeber about that ship was how freakin' loud it was inside the plane. Didn't it have some mods done to the engines that upped the HP?Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
bodypilot1 0 #12 April 29, 2004 Yes. But you should see the fleet the Royal Thai Airforce has of the Basler modified DC3's. So quiet and smooth. I had the pleasure of flying in one for a few hours as we flew over to look at another AF Base in Thailand during bad weather looking for another LZ. Thats probably the only type I'd ever care to jump again....www.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com
airdvr 210 #13 April 29, 2004 I think its a bit sad that the 3's aren't used anymore. That was a different style of skydiving requiring major diving down to the base unless you were in the first 5 or 6 out the door. That was a blast! And who can forget your first ride in Mr. Douglas...the blue glow...the rockin tunes...and Rickerby's mural depicting the hand of the reaper. Wasn't Southern Cross owned by the Columbian Gov't at one time? Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
bodypilot1 0 #14 April 29, 2004 Yep. The dives were LONG and FUN! Or how about being able to do a full dirt dive in the plane on the way to altitude. I've even packed a 2nd rig on the way up!www.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com
airdvr 210 #15 April 29, 2004 Interesting that "Flagship Detroit" has the right hand door. There was one like it at Quincy back in the '80's. It was awfully strange exiting from the "wrong" side of the plane. We went up in it once with only one pilot and I guess he wasn't experienced at dropping jumpers. Managed to stall it on jump run...that was an interesting ride What about the other 3's...I'm talking "Agent Orange" (remember the chemical smell inside that plane?) or "Sugar Alpha"? Anyone know whatever happened to those? Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

I've even packed a 2nd rig on the way up! Or how about doing pre-stars when you were the last few out on a 40 way? Mad John used to finish a novel a weekend, just while riding to altitude. mjosparky 4 #17 April 29, 2004 QuoteSometimes Perris crank its up too. Perris does not have a DC-3, the one they use belongs to Skip and is kept at Elsinore. He does mostly movie work with it. mjosparky 4 #18 April 29, 2004 There is a Basler DC-3 flying out of Cal. City. The door is huge. If you are not 6 feet or taller you can not reach the floater bar above the door. SparkyMy idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
Amazon 7 #19 April 29, 2004 I got to do some RW out of Eloys DC-3 during the Holiday boogie. I had forgotton just how hard it was to be front float on one when the aircraft is full of jumpers and you are the first out with the first group... and the pilot has the engine cranked and you are trying to hold onto the little bar up there.. .. the prop blast the oil spots...ahhh I love the DC-

I'm not a fan of the DC3 usually, but i'll never forget that sunset load we did. Perhaps i'll do it again this year. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! Dougjumper 0 #21 April 29, 2004 Yep thats right...spelled Tullahoma,TN Tenn Skydiving Center.. Been sitting here for about 4 years now. One engine completely removed. Dont know if they start up other Engine or not...but its a real Shame seeing it down all this Time. Made quite a few Jumps from it and sure miss it. History just sitting and going to waste. Dont know If or When Bird will be flying Again... The glass is half full or half empty doesn't matter. Let go and have the Lord guide your path. He will take care of it all. schwede 0 #22 April 30, 2004 When I was there, we jumped it during the Rumble seat meet, -99/00... So I thought it stayed at Perris...However, it was nice again to be in a such plane eventhough I soon was to be remembered of my blue/yellow left shoulder.. which I always got by DC3 exits...those doors are narrow....Schwede "Das Leben ist schön, nicht immer aber immer öfter"
