davekris 0 #1 May 16, 2004 Moving to Montgomery, AL very soon. Would like to hear about any info on DZs in or around Montgomery,AL. Thanks.
Topcat 0 #2 May 16, 2004 I don't think there is one in Montgomery. There's one in Pell City (east of Birmingham) and one in Cullman (Skydive Alabama; north of Birmingham). There's also Skydive Opeleika, which I think is closest to you (north of Montgomery). You also might want to check out Skydive Atlanta, which is in Thomaston, Georgia. As for info, you'll find plenty on their respective entries in the dropzone database. -Sandy
SkymonkeyONE 4 #3 May 17, 2004 Skydive Opelika is a two-Cessna dropzone located less than 30 miles from Montgomery on I-85 in Tuskeegee (exit 38 unless I am mistaken). Nearest turbine is Pell City. Chuck
skydivegirl 0 #4 May 17, 2004 Correct me if I'm wrong... but I thought Pell City is back to a cessna.Pink Mafia Sis #
SkymonkeyONE 4 #5 May 17, 2004 Hadn't heard that, but anything is possible in Alabama. If that's the case, then there isn't anyplace that is particularly "close" with one. Elberta or Moss Point straight south, Thomaston to the East, Cullman to the North.
skydivegirl 0 #6 May 17, 2004 Eh, I could be wrong. I don't live in Birmingham anymore so I haven't kept up with the happenings as much. Montgomery is, however, a short 3-hour drive to Gold Coast Skydivers. If I lived in Fungomery I would definitely plan at least 1 trip a month to Gold Coast. (I guess it IS only to Tuskeegee. ) "Don't! Get! Eliminated!"
KenKnight 0 #8 May 17, 2004 Yes, Pell City is still flying the Cesna 205. Made 10 jumps from it this weekend. They are working on getting another turbine, but nothing yet._______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
