skyjuggler 0 #1 June 3, 2004 I am interested in any information on how busy the the major Florida DZ's are during the summer. It is my understanding that they slow down considerably during the summer time. How many loads tend to turn at Sebastian, Space Center, Z-Hills, Deland during the summer weekdays? Are the weekends still busy? What is it like to jump in Florida during this time? My last memory of Zhills in the summer was that it was very hot and humid. Comments please. bendywendy 0 #2 June 4, 2004 At Sebastian we close on Tuesdays but we jump throughout the week. It's very hard to say what the loads are like throughout the week. Somedays we fly 4 loads and some days we fly 12 - depends on how many people show up. It is hot and humid but beautiful. Nothing like jumping in shorts and tank tops with the Intercoastal waterway and the Ocean for a background. DeLand (I believe) is open every day. They always have teams so they will be sending loads. They are probably your busiest summer dz in Florida but we do still jump everyday and unless you are desperate to do 12 jumps a day - you'd be fine at Sebastian. No, but we still have planes going up all weekend long and it is usually back-to-backs. When you hear that things are slowing down for us in the summer, it mostly just means from 2-3 planes down to 1. As for the temperature, it IS pretty hot and humid. If you stay in the shade it is bearable though. If you get to the dz early in the morning it will be cooler of course, and the winds are lower if you like to swoop. Many times afternoon thunderstorms will roll in around 2-4 in the afternoon, but they clear up so you can jump into the evening thanks to daylight savings time. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
