sunnydee123 0 #1 June 18, 2003 I was given an older rig when I started skydiving a few months ago, the rig has the leg straps that have those big hooks on them (think someone called them B12 snaps or something). I was just packing my rig for a trip and noticed that the stitching on one of the sides of the buckle has come out. The buckle is hooked directly to the leg strap and I am guessing the stitching is just to hold the buckle more stable but is it a big deal....should I get it fixed before jumping? It looks like if I had a big needle and some nylon thread I coudl do it myself...not sure how to describe it......Think I'll have a rigger check it once I get to my destination and before I jump. Anyone have an idea what I'm talking about.....??? Dreams become reality, one choice at a time...
darkwing 5 #2 June 18, 2003 actually I miss my b-12 snaps. I could adjust them, tack them in place, and they stayed right where they were best for many jumps. Not like the continued adjustments of modern harnesses. I'm not entirely sure what you are describing, but it sounds like it is just the tacking that is coming loose. Usually the b-12 snap itself had a friction adapter integrated into the snap (hook) part. Have a rigger look at it. If it is just tacked into place, then adjust it for yourself and retack it. The running end of the webbing is most likely folded over a couple of times and sewn down with a heavy duty sewing machine, using heavy thread. If that is what is loose, then you need someone with a harness machine to re-sew it. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
sunnydee123 0 #3 June 18, 2003 Think it is that tacking you are referring to because I see where the actualy strap is sewn and that is not it....this is just a thick piece of thread, over the snap and threw the leg strap, maybe 3 times on each side....I am confident now that it is just for holding it in place, not securing it to the rig but I'll still have it looked at when I get to Aggieland. Thanks bunches - now I won't stress so much! Dreams become reality, one choice at a time...

Not like the continued adjustments of modern harnesses. Me too. Stepping into and out of the step in rigs is a real pain. I like knowing that I can unsnap the rig and get OUT of it really fast if I need to. I haven't done a water jump since the seventies, so I don't even know what the safe way is to get out of a step in if you land in the water, but it seems a snorkel might be needed. As long as you keep your B12's nice & springy so they don't get stuck, they're perfectly safe and with decent padding they're not at all uncomfortable. I'm going to have them put on the rig I order.
