eagleswing 0 #1 June 28, 2004 Have decided to begine the sport but undecided about where to begin skydiving in Southern California. So far it looks like Lake Elsinore or Perris Valley. Any info anyone has as to which would be the better place to learn is appreciated.
skyyhi 0 #2 June 28, 2004 Welcome to the boards. . .That is a HUGELY loaded question you asked of us So Cal skydivers. We happen to love our DZ's but are very passionate most of the time about one or the other. Here is my take on both. . . Instruction: Both Elsinore and Perris offer the very best skydiving instruction with EXCELLENT instructors and top notch equipment. Both have Turbine Aircraft, nice large landing areas, and both offer instruction integrated with tunnel time - should you choose this route. Vibe: This is really where the two dropzones differ. The vibe at Elsinore is more layed back and relaxed. Because the area where everyone hangs out at is large, it seems that it is easier to get to know people there and really get integrated in the community. Perris is much more business-like at first glance. Once you have gone there a few times you realize that it is just a surface thing and that the vibe is really cool but sometimes first impressions are hard to break. Also the skydiving schools are separated from the main area where people gather so it is a little harder (though not difficult) for newbies to get integrated into the dz lifestyle. I would suggest making a trip to both dz's and just kind of hanging out and seeing which one seems to suit you better. Talk to staff, look at the amenities that are offered, and just basically hang out and get a feel for the atmosphere at both. Its the only way you will know where you want to go to learn. Where the two differ is vibe.________________________________________ Take risks not to escape life… but to prevent life from escaping. ~ A bumper sticker at the DZ FGF #6 Darcy
