chuteless 1 #1 July 4, 2004 I just got home from a trip of 8293 miles, across the United States from Rhode Island to Californa, and an opportunity to visit quite a few DZs. After 42 years of jumping, I think I have the ability to tell a good dropzone from one of lesser worth. I met a lot of great people, and a few not so great , and both affected the Dropzones they were active at. Although I wasnt able to get to every DZ, I did manage to get to enough to form a solid opinion as to whether they were a great dropzone or a place I wouldnt ever want to visit again. Oddly enough, the best and the worst of all those I visited were in the same State.....OHIO. Bill Cole D-

fergs 0 #3 July 5, 2004 Hey Bill, What a nice way to amble across the country - visiting DZ's. Together with my wife, I made a 20,000 mile, 6 month DZ-Crawl in the US some years ago. We bought a van on the west coast and zig-zagged our way across the south to the east coast and then up the east coast to NY City, where we flew out of. Funny, less than 20% of the nights we were in the US were actually sleeping in the van. The rest were in the houses of jumpers who'd haul us home from the van. "You ain't sleeping in that van here in my town." was the usual comment. Then they'd call their parents / brothers / uncles / etc ahead of us and tell them to make up the spare room, because "two aussies will be staying with you when they pass through...". And like you, we soon worked out what makes a good DZ and what makes a bad DZ. No, it wasn't the aircraft size or the quality of the facilities. It was the quality of the skydivers there. Good people make a good DZ. And the reverse is true too. What a great sport we all do - a big international family. Blue Skies, fergs

chuteless 1 #7 July 6, 2004 The best was in southern Ohio, SGC The worst was in northern Ohio AE....... (not so much the DZ as the arrogant attitude of the DZO. Bill Cole D-
