Nate Gilbert Nationwide Sunset Tracking Dive Saturday

Recommended Posts

TJ,

Your first home DZ, Byron, respresented a nice track sometime before sunset for your friend and teammate, Nate Gilbert. ( We had to start early, as the winds were doing their Byron Dance..... again....)

We miss you out here TJ, and I have been thinking of you all week. Just wanted to tell you how much I have loved watching you grow up, and how much I still love you.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Peace and Blue Skies!
We put together a two-pass tracking dive at ASC with 23 people. Mike G and Kenny Pugh organized everything beautifully, and Katie led us on the first pass. We honestly though we would have to wait until Sunday, but right around 6:30 all the tandems and students left because of the weather, at 7:30 the sky opened up for us, at sunset we were in the air with our brother again.
It was beautiful, everything was just the way Nate would have liked it, towering cloud formations, a full load of trackers, and Katie leading us home. Right after the second pass landed, the clouds moved back in, and the sun was set.
There were some tears in the landing area, but there were a few smiles too. After such a gorgeous tracking dive, you just knew Nate was right there with us..........smiling like always.
Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!!
Ummm, it wasn't just the swoopers Mr. Drennan ;) Zhills put up 18 people for Nate's tracking dive. It seemed like a rather quiet ride to altitude, as I think many of us pondered WHY we were doing this particular tracking dive and got a little emotional. Clouds and weather teased us all day and the DZ couldn't promise us altitude but I think Nate was with us. We all watched as we climbed and climbed and finally reached altitude. Two minutes out, Aubrey said a little something about Nate and the entire load was joined by a big "hand hold - raise em up" gesture. Brian McNenney lead us out (the spot was not entirely his fault either :P). I was near the back of the pack but I had a kick ass view of the formation! At 6,000 we all started dumping and quickly realized how far out we were....I again had another awesome view as just about all the canopies were below and in front of me (I have to start flying camera). I personally took the time to chat with Nate a bit, as all of the canopies that were in the air for him started heading "home". Turns out "home" was to be a nearby cow pasture and I think it was my boyfriend Greg and Ian Bobo's canopies landing that started the cattle running :)
Thanks to everyone who was part of it. Tyler has some good footage thanks to all who flew camera to capture it (my guy got some of the best footage I think :)) - can't wait to see it.
It was a great way to end the weekend, thinking and missing a great friend and skydiver, and doing it with a smile ~
Dreams become reality, one choice at a time...
Tecumseh held our tracking dive on Saturday as well, led by Ian. Since weather was toying with us we had to do it a bit before sunset. It was very beautiful and I hope to post some photos soon, we left the slot next to Ian open, so Nate would have a slot next to his brother.
Adam Rosen took stills (including the one above) and Jason Aubin took vid of the tracking dive led by Heath. All will be sent to you this week.
PS. Maybe ASC could post the tracking photos from around the country on their website for us all to enjoy?
We here in New Mexico did a pre-sunset traking dive in memory...
CJ, Ron, Julie and myself... was quite nice and the thought of a huge flock around the country/world was kinda neat...
We put out an 8 way track at Skydive Atlanta with CG leading it. I gave him my footage to forward to ASC.
The plane ride up was acompanied by tootie frootie blasting on the CD player as we remembered how Nate would like to have it.
Our sunset tracking dive led by Wyat down here at Skydive San Diego was beautiful. I swear the sunset looked like heaven with some amazing reds and clouds as the sun set on the ocean. And I hate to brag, but I have too...after the track I had the fastest, farthest, funest, most perfect turn and swoop I have EVER had in my life. It was very strange. By far the best so far. Quite a few people on the ground saw it, but the only person that didn't is my mentor, coach, best friend, lover, fiance Wyat Drewes (he pulled high and was still enjoying the sunset). Thanks for the swoop Nate Dawg!
Any of you that came out to ASC for Nate's ash dive, please send me your email to amkdoor@netscape.net - I would like to send you our newsletter and pics from the weekend.
Thanks everyone who came out to make it so special and just like Nate would have wanted.
