Wingsuit lecture/forum and BMI course at WFFC

Recommended Posts

Just a quick note to say that I will be running the wingsuit seminar at WFFC and have been asked by a number of people to consider running a BMI course there as well. I have figured out a way to safely do it, so interested parties PM me for more info. Looks like the lecture phase will be on Tuesday and the air evals will happen first thing Wednesday morning. I am more than willing to shift dates to accomodate different and potentially better participation.

Don't want to hijack the thread, but what's the best way for new wingsuit flyers to get in the air? Will you and other BMI have a tent? How much ground training is required before 1st wingsuit jump?

Thanks a lot. (And apologies in advance if this info is posted elsewhere and I missed it.)

Wingsuit instruction will be available at both our (BirdMan, Inc.) and the Matter tents. BirdMan's tent will be in the same spot as last year; right across the street from Load Organizer tent 1. Not sure where JP will be running the Matter concession from. We will have a higher minimum-jump requirement at Rantoul again, just like last year. It will definitely be at least 350 jumps, but possibly as high as the normally-recommended 500 jumps. That will be determined in-house in the next few weeks.

Chuck beat me to it. The ground training takes approx 20-30 mins and then however long it takes to get on a load for a 1 on 1 coach dive.Price is $60 plus 2 slots.

Well, I guess I won't need to worry about finding you guys this year. :( For some reason, I thought the min jump # would be closer to 200. Oh well, I'll track you down when I meet those requirements.

Usually yes it is 200 jumps, but with the high anxiety of the Convention and high amount of traffic......three simotainious jump runs.....we are going with a higher number.

The 200 jumps is also based on currency. 200 jump over 5+ years is going to have me asking you to find someone else to teach you. 200 jumps in a year? Currency level is high enough that I'll assist them.

You and DaGimp make valid points about jump #'s vs. currency and traffic issues at WFFC. Those are reasonable safety precautions. So I'm NOT going to follow my 1st instinct and claim that " this doesn't apply to me because of _________ (fill in the blank)." Instead, I'll focus on getting qualified for wingsuit flying down the road, starting someplace that doesn't have the same issues as the convention. Thanks for the feedback.

What about someone (me) who has around 20 BM jumps already, but no suit of my own?

You can rent a suit by the jump for $10.00. Unfortunately, we cannot rent them out for longer than that since the suits are from the stock we use to let others demo and for teaching the FFC to first timers. Come see me or Chuck and we will make sure you get to make a few flights with the flock.;)

Kallend... Offer from me is if you can fit into my second suit you can borrow it for the convention. Only payment is you have to actually fly it with me once :)

Cool. Thanks! How tall are you?
