SSkydiver 0 #1 June 2, 2003 Not much to meantions here. I just wanted to give a shout of thanks to all those who responded to my post from last weekend about my crappy landings. I read the replies/advice over and over and applied that advice at the dz today. Did three jumps today and had nice standups on each one. Thanks to all those who gave me excellent advice. It made a big difference. The things you can learn from this site!!!. Thanks.

Glad you're landings have improved. - Jim The problem i was having was that i all of a sudden couldnt do a stand up landing, constant tumble, late flares. I caught myself last weekend looking straight down at my feet coming in on my landings which all but killed my depth perception, which in turn made me flare way to late, usually just enough to keep me from breaking my legs. The advice i utilized the most was just simply looking forward. Advice on that was to look forward/up 60 degrees from the ground or down 30 degrees from stright in front of you. I did that on my first jump and it worked prefectly. It almost seemed to make me start my flare naturally simply from the greatly increased depth perception. You simply see yourself fly in. Other advice i tried was looking to the side and forward on landing (just make sure your very clear to the front of you) which gave me the same result as looking forward. Last but not least was look forward but have on leg extended out but not locked and the other bent under you. On a little/no wind day as you begin to flare, you feel the ground with your extended foot and you simply add more flare which levels you out till you simply step down. The second and third landings were a little different for me because its a new technique. The best advice is to just remember to look forward. As i came in on final i just wispered to myself "Eyes forward, Eyes forward" and it made all the difference in the world.
