how many jumps for AFF

Recommended Posts

I am getting ready to start my AFF in about a week but I am confused on a few things maybe someone here can set me straight.
according to my literature AFF is a seven stage progression...That means 7 jumps if I get everything right, is that right? and after I finish AFF will I have my license?

No. After you finish AFF you are concidered cleared for solos. To get a lincence you have to ahve 20 jumps, 2 RW jumps after AFF with a coach, completed and jumped your own pack job and accumulated 20 min of freefall. Check the SIMs for all the other requirements.

Not quite, but if you did everything right in those first 7 jumps, then you'd be well on your way.

Instruction methods vary from school to school, but generally speaking after the 7th successful stage comes an 8th, wherein you're allowed to jump all by yourself. You still would have to make several more jumps in order to get your license, but those are all pretty fun and far less expensive than the initial 7 levels for the AFF program.

Check all this stuff out;

"Old" AFF was seven levels. In "new" ISP=based AFF you are jumping with AFF Instructors for nine skydives. You, by USPA's definition are still considered a student untiil you have 20 jumps and have fully completed your A-license proficiency card. There are plenty of dropzones still teaching old AFF; many of those would lead you to believe you are good to go after graduating a 7-level program.

This is an easy question for me, as I have just finished AFF a few days ago and am at that stage you're wondering about (and was I, what now? what next????? etc etc). My AFF I said the best thing to do is jump right in getting coached jumps, and make sure I have my A license in 20 jumps. It will force you not to learn any bad habits just goofing around on your own, and will progress you faster, further.

This is all water under the bridge though, if youre doing AFF at a student friendly school they'll be more than willing and happy to help you get off student status.
