Hitting Skydive Dallas this weekend

Recommended Posts

I'll be in Dallas Friday and Saturday and was thinking of hitting Skydive Dallas both days. Any Pros/Cons from the regulars or people who've visted there?

I see perfomance landings are "forbidden" there according to their profile on DZ.com. This true or is there an area where I can do my approaches?

edit: Any FF'ers gonna be out there Fri or Sat?

Bruno is jumping his 50 what ever there. I was doing 180's the last few times I was there. We held a swoop accuracy comp the last time there was low clouds there when I was there. Plenty of room to swoop ;)

I reccommend landing near the peas for the first few jumps. Everyone except the students left me alone over there.

Its a good 45 minutes north of Richardson so depending where you are in the Metroplex it might be a bit of a drive.

Fun, nice place and Team VIBE organizes all the time.

Like Phree said, Vibe organizes there, Find Rigger John or Brandon or DJ. Cool guys if you haven't met them before. John and Brandon both jump small x braced canopies and i think they have started moving hp landings to a separate area behind the hangar from the main area, but i haven't jumped there for a while now. Have fun and watch the wind up there.:)

Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you.

They have a "new" landing area on the other side of the trailers for approaches over 180. Nice open area, but the winds aren't always good for that field.

Sorry about the Friday not working out...if we get weathered out and SD Dallas is jumping I might sneak up there on Saturday, but no promises.

The main landing area is for up to 180 hooks.
The "back yard" is for whatever you want. Careful with that field, it is mowed with a tractor so it can have some "ruts" in it. The front yard is really nice.
Make sure you have someone take you to the "Dusty Saddle" or better known to the jumpers as the Crusty Saddle. If yuo are there on Sunday nite it is White trash chicken nite at the crusty on Sunday.....don't ask:S:S just go.:P
You will have plenty of FF's to play with.
They are closed Tue tru Thurs.

Perfomance landings are not forbidden - they only allow 180 if you use main landing area but you can do whatever you want if you use HP landing area - there is a pretty big field on the other side of the main hangar, but the surface isn't that good though. A lot of people including Vibe are using a strip on the other side of runway. It is also a good place to land if wind is blowing from the south and creates a lot of turbulence near the hangar. In any case, there is plenty of room for you if you want to hook.

There will be a birthday party Saturday night - a god chance to socialize with dz folks.
If you plan to crash at bankroom, I recommend to reserve a bad in advance. Simply find the one you like you drop some of your staff.

P.S. I strongly recommend to try some food from Chef Mike's cafe - he makes excellent staff. ;)

Ian- I can't believe you are going down to Texas after I left! I manifested at Skydive Dallas for Aug, Sept and Oct. Came back to jumptown a couple of weeks ago- had to do the Thanksgiving Boogie! :)
Say hi to my buddie Mike V. - chief pilot -has the hangar across the runway.
Have fun and stay out of trouble- :)
oh= and "White trash Chicken" is pretty tasty! ;)

Hugs to Katie!

I'm curious, but can anyone tell me why they consider a more intrusive approach to a good pattern (180 degree turn) as ok to perform in the "regular" landing area? I'm all for separate HP and regular areas but it seems contradictory to me.

Perfect. Good to know there are good alternatives.

we'd love to stay but unfortunately we have an event on Saturday evening we're attending (the reason we're in TX), hopefully we'll get to socialize a bit more on our next visit.

Dave if you're weathered out come on up. We're having a little gathering Saturday night and we'ed love to have you. ;) You can bring one of those kegs of Shiner you stash away down there. :)
