FlyinTiki 0 #1 December 7, 2004 Hey all! I'm a new jumper (this summer) from Illinois, and am lookin to make a trip to florida in January to jump for a weekend. I would be travelling by myself, and on a tight budget. I'm lookin for the warmest/cheapest/most fun accomodations. I don't wanna' fly with my camping stuff, so a bunkhouse or cheap hotel would rock! Also, closeness to an airport is key because I won't really have transportation. Thanks for any info!!
bendywendy 0 #2 December 7, 2004 Sebastian is warm. We have free camping and buying a little tent at walmart is still cheaper than a hotel. Anyways, just get to Florida - all the dz's are close enough to rent a car - which is cheap in FL - and dropzone hop if you want to.
FlyingJ 0 #3 December 7, 2004 If the bunkhouse idea doesn't work out, how about flying into Orlando and renting a car large enough to crash in. If you look around I'm sure you can find a car discounted enough to be cheaper than a hotel, plus, you can jump and party at a different dropzone each day, and when it's over just crash. I sleep in my car at the dropzone and could hardly be more comfortable. I have a Dodge Intrepid and the passenger seat lays all the way down onto the back seat so it's almost like having a little bed in there. Originally I did it when I arrived really late and didn't want to pitch my tent in the dark, and I've never pitched my tent since!Killing threads since 2004. cheneyneel 0 #4 December 8, 2004 I am not really sure that any DZ's in Florida have a traditional bunkhouse except maybe for Lake Whales but I dont know if the hurricane killed them or not. If they were able to host Nationals I am sure that they have some so give them a call... Plus it is really close to Orlando.. Umm.. Also if you call Z-hills they may can rent you something. I have heard of subleasing going on there by people who arent there all season but have a place. Manifest will have more info if you call and ask.. FlyinTiki 0 #6 December 8, 2004 Ok. I'm going to Orlando on January 6th (Thursday) and will be around until Monday the 10th. I have a place to crash in Orlando...now I'm just looking for the nearest/best dropzone. I've been hinted towards Lake Wales...anyone have any recommendations? Thanks again
skymama 37 #7 December 9, 2004 Any major dropzone you go to in FL will be hoping, especially over the weekend. It's our "season" here. You'll have fun at whichever one you head to, but Lake Wales is the closest to Orlando. If you can get a car, I suggest you travel around if you can. The drive isn't bad to any of them from Orlando. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
cheneyneel 0 #8 December 9, 2004 Yea all the DZ's in the area Rock. I have spent a lot of time in Titusville and Z-Hills.. I think that they have the most local up jumpers on a constant basis. Plus at Z-Hills there are no rulez, it is the Wild Wild West out there and it is great. I dont think that you can go wrong with any decision you make out of all the DZ's in the central area. Just look up events at each DZ and go where everyone else is going. Plus it is a warm winter so it means rain in Florida so weather might be a deciding factor.. Just be flexible on not set on a specific DZ at a certain time especially if you are by your self....
