skygal4ever 0 #1 April 25, 2005 This location was awful in customer service. I was a first time jumper celbrating my college graduation so i thought i would spring for the DVD(even though a 100 dollars for a college student is a big deal!)The videographer messed up my landing by "FORGETTING" to hit the record button because he was talking and distracted. My 100 dollar dvd didn't include a landing or A follow-up interview when i landed. I acomplained a LOT (the guy who messed up was a jerk) and all i got was 20 dollars back....in reality, it wasnt about the money but the memories...he stole my moments and he actaully had the audacity to tell me if i wanted a refund i would have to give him everything (my entire DVD with the freefall) back...this place was awful, their owner was not helpful and worst of all, the guy who i jumped with was not as experienced and a lot of our fall suffered because of that...i loved sky diving and plan to take many more people in the next few years but i will NEVER EVER return to Skydive Santa Barbara. I suggest you never go there either
skybytch 273 #2 April 26, 2005 QuoteThe videographer messed up my landing by "FORGETTING" to hit the record button because he was talking and distracted. Shit happens. Did you give him a chance to explain and perhaps apologize prior to "complaining a LOT"? Quote.in reality, it wasnt about the money but the memories...he stole my moments You don't remember landing? I remember all but the first few seconds of my first jump and I didn't have video. Quoteworst of all, the guy who i jumped with was not as experienced and a lot of our fall suffered because of that.. Did he have a rating? Then he's experienced enough for a tandem examiner to give him that rating. I'd bet a tandem examiner just may know a bit more about tandem skydiving than you do. How exactly did your "fall suffer"? How do you know that "suffering" wasn't because of something you did or didn't do? And, btw, if you're going to come here to bash a dz by name you could at least be brave enough to put your name in your profile.
achowe 0 #3 April 26, 2005 how exactly did your 'fall' suffer? I find that hard to believe......------------------------------------------------- Woooaaaaaa!!! Woooaaaa!!! I'm gettin' off it!
blackdog 0 #4 April 26, 2005 you certainly think you know/learned everything about tandem skydiving from one experience. I believe you missed the whole point of skydiving in your quick attempt to begin your complaining. You have a video of your freefall which IS the SKYDIVE. Normally people are so exhilarated they can enjoy eveything that happened, realise shit happens. You seem quite selfcentered and more upset that you couldn't direct the video production?!?! Be happy in the fact that you have the memories, a roll of film, and vid of your dive. Who cares what happens on the ground when everything went safely and according to instruction. If your freefall were to have 'suffered', you probably would be dead. Maybe you have some other experience we don't know about though.
kelpdiver 2 #5 April 27, 2005 Weren't you distracted on landing? How'd you know that he was too? Sorry it didn't happen, but if you get the freefall and the parachute opening, you got the good stuff. Equipment and people sometimes have problems that can't be fixed on the spot. ---- So for the sport jumpers, what's SB like? Worth detouring towards on the way home to San Francisco? Taft is off the 5, this one off 101.

I haven't jumped at Lompoc (that's where Skydive SB is located - north of Santa Barbara, south of Santa Maria) but I stopped by once a few years ago; I hear it's a nice view from altitude and the landing area is a bit funky (riverbed). They fly a Caravan (the one that used to be in Davis...). The drive is certainly more scenic going up the 101 instead of the 5.
sistersluge 0 #9 April 28, 2005 im sorry you feel your jump was ruined and that you will never be returning to sdsb. however, some of your "facts" are not correct. the camera man never said that he was busy talking, he tried to explain to you that he thought he pushed the record button but apparently didnt for whatever reason. he apologized profusely and offered you a discount as well as a full refund. as far as the followup interview goes, he offered to redo it for you but you declined the offer. i saw your video, and excepting the fact that your landing was not on it, it was a great video. your $20 refund represents 20% off the cost of your video. this amount was agreed upon by splitting the video up into fifths: interview, plane ride, freefall, landing/interview, and still film. im sorry you feel that your landing is the most important part of a skydive and should be valued more. it isnt, the freefall is, so if anything should be valued more that is it. as far as the experience of your instructor goes, all of the instructors at sdsb are tandem rated. they all have numerous jumps under their belts and have yet to demonstrate that they are not worthy or qualified to be instructors. im not sure what you mean when you say that your "fall suffered". you did not mention anything of the sort while you were here. if you have any serious complaints about the quality of your instructor, please feel free to call sdsb with them. i have been jumping at sdsb for a year now and have not had any problems. i did my tandems and aff here as well. the staff have always been friendly and helpful. it is a small dz, but it gets things done. the views are amazing, and while the landing area can seem a bit tricky, i have never had any problems with it. jamie b-27697
nickboyd 0 #10 May 5, 2005 With the exception of this particular tandem student, this DZ is great. Marine layer might shut down jumping occasionally, but when it doesn't, you have an amazing view, a clean & fast plane, a friendly staff, and a pretty sweet facility. I did jumps 25-120 at SDSB and now I have about 2500. I actually went back to jump there the same day this video incident happened, and I had a blast. This customer just failed to realize that in skydiving things don't always go perfectly. The videographer was sorry and the customer didn't really care. Don't let the beginning of this thread dissuade you from visiting the DZ, but make sure you check the weather forecast. If the weather is favorable, make sure you swoop the river bed for me. bannedinSB 0 #11 May 9, 2005 I fun jump at Skydive Santa Barbara, I remember witnessing your tantrum, and I am glad you “will NEVER EVER” be returning. Birds of a feather flock together, and if your friends are anything like you, they should stay away too. I applaud your effort to correctly spell “celebrating.” Prima donnas with an unfounded feeling of entitlement wouldn’t know a fun skydive if they’d just earned a diploma in it, nevermind that they’d gone skydiving to celebrate. You’ve only got yourself to thank for memories of yourself whining, bitching, moaning, groaning and complaining instead of enjoying yourself and letting the little things go. You get an “A” for shitting on the moment. You have a lot to learn.
