The UK Freefly 'It's a London Thing' Boogie 2005

Recommended Posts

On the 17th-18th September i have organised a boogie for the London Skydivers.
As you know we have the choice of 7 Dropzones within easy reach of London, so here's your chance to come along to Weston and check it out!

We will have TWO G-92 Dorniers,
I'm just waiting for confirmation in the Helicopter and Balloon,
Things are looking good at the moment!

All jumps are just £16!
If you've never been to Weston before there's no membership fee for this weekend!

Boogie Registration is just £5 (To cover cost of organisors etc)

Don't worry if you're not from London, everyones welcome!

We will have load organising in FS, Freefly, Tracking/Atmonauti and Hybrids.
There are also instructors on hand for any coaching etc.

Weston also offers Free camping, cheap bar, HUGE landing area, very large packing hall, creeper pads, mock-ups, packers, rigging services, hot free and clean shower block.
We also have a food van and vending machines that provide food and hot/cold drinks all day!

Come along and check us out,
It's gonna be a great event!

Hi Nigel

I'd definitely be up for the boogie, but is there anywhere to sleep over night without a tent? Also, when you say 'huge' landing area, how big is huge? I'm a newbie and used to something the size of Langar's area.

Are the balloon and helis likely to be confirmed, or are they looking dodgy?

Cheers,

Ian

The Helicopter is pretty much sorted, It's the balloon guy i'm waiting to here from, he's very keen at the moment.

There's only camping, no bunkhouse unfortunately,
and the landing area is something like 2miles long and 1.5miles wide and it's all grass too

There's a poll where you can say if you're coming or not:

Really?

Langars landing area is anywhere on the airfield - not just the mowed area close in.

Westons is pretty much the same I believe and I'd have thought the total area is similar (except that there are no gliders at Langar)

But in any case the area is plenty large enough not to be a problem to DZJ

just one thing to note, in the UK there are usually jump limits (for instance B licence requirement) to jump things like balloons and sometimes helicopters, so best to check that out too.

Wish I could be going, but never mind, maybe next year!

That's what I remember too I think. :)
Last time I was going to jump the Jet Ranger I was told you needed to be on a 10 seconds delay in order to jump it and that's it... as far as the DZ was concerned it was just another aircraft and they could put whatever they wanted out of it including students.

As with all things though I wouldn't be surprised if that answer varied depending on where you are. :S

Sounds good. Unfortunately i am unlikely to make it this time but I wondered what sort of altitude are you expecting for the Dorniers and the Balloon jumps.

I'm NOT totally useless... I can be used as a bad example

Hmm, bugger. Oh well, they'll be other opportunities.

(And at any rate, I've already jumped a helicopter - got to do one on jump 20!)

To jump the Helicopter you need an A-License,

The Bell Jetranger will go to 8,000ft,
The Dorniers are going to 12,000ft

The Balloon is still TBC
