saucy_dee 0 #1 September 13, 2005 Hi all Me and the boyfriend are going to be arriving into San Fransisco on 22nd September. Can you recommend any DZ's near there, where we could stay and how much it will cost to stay there. Next, we may be looking for a lift to the DZ too if anyone can help... We will be making our way through California, taking in Elsinore and Perris and then across to Eloy, leaving there on 1 November. Any suggestions, advice or lifts greatly appreciated! Come on, sell us your DZ! Don't put off 'till tomorrow what you can do today
skybytch 273 #2 September 13, 2005 Byron, Lodi and Davis are all within a couple hours of The City. Each has a different vibe and fly different aircraft. All three are worth a visit. I don't know what is available for overnight stays at Lodi or Byron. Davis has a free bunkhouse, free tent camping area and clean, hot showers. If you can, plan to hit Byron the first weekend you're here - it's the Byron Boogie/Nor Cal Freefly Festival that weekend. Gonna be loads of fun! Come out to Byron http://www.bayareaskydiving.com For more info about the byron boogie, go here: www.byron-boogie.com You can camp for free, unfortunately we dont have a bunkhouse and all that stuff.. If you want to stay at a hotel, the info is on the boogie website. See you at the boogie!
Elisha 1 #4 September 13, 2005 Lisa, Re: bunkhouse. Are you talking about the white, cargo container thingy's used as offices? I stayed in a room one night during the American boogie. So are they rentable all the time? I wasn't sure if is was a usual or boogie thing.
kelpdiver 2 #5 September 13, 2005 Definitely a good time to hit Byron for their event. How are you making your way to LA? Driving south, Hollister is a great last call before the 6 hours to Perris/Elsinore. Pretty similar to Byron - 15k exits from a King Air. Better weather, but LZ is 8 miles from the DZ, so you take a van ride every time. At this point I think I'm leaving work (10 miles from SFO) around 3 or so on Thursday to go out to Byron for their planned night dive activity. And again Sat morning for a partial day, and again Sunday for presumably a full day. Plenty of room in the car. Also, if you two want to stay in SF itself, I can offer the spare bedroom. Alternatively, from San Francisco Airport, you can take BART to Pleasanton, which is close enough to Byron that you should be able to find jumpers that can pick you up on the way.
