Beginner going to Australia!

I'm looking for "places to go" in Australia, so please share Your experiences.

I've got my AFF, but only got 28 jumps "under my belt".

I am mainly looking for DZ's in the northern part of Australia (NT and QLD), but feel free to share any information You might find appropriate.

I'm going over there in Feb and have done some research and emailing and I'm going to Sydney Skydiving in Picton. Sounds like a good dz. They seem to have the biggest fleet including a skyvan. Being from Florida I'm a bit spoiled.

You should really check into the Austrailan Parachute Federation (i think) thats their govorning body.
When I was there I had to have an AAD, and over 100 jumps, but I dont remember why.
I think it was so that I didnt have to do a coach jump.

also it may be a good idea to get in touch with the DZ you are planning to jump at. They could be a big help.

When will you arrive in Oz?

I'll be leaving Denmark in a weeks time, but then going to Dampier for an offshore-project.
So it'll most likely be about a month before I start thinking about skydiving.
I then plan to stay for about 5 weeks!

Student Traning and Safety in Australia is excellent.
One thing to be aware of, though. I seem to recall that Australia has a requirement that you complete a course of "B-rels". It is a program similar to an RW coaching sequence (Skydive U), but it is mandatory before you get your B license, and before you can jump with anyone else.

So you may be treated as essentially a student there even if you have a USPA A license. On the plus side, the instruction you'll receive is excellent.

Different dropzones may have different standards. I was always especially fond of Skydive Express, in York, about an hour east of Perth.

AADs are required for all sub D licence holders. AAD or RSL is required for D licence holders. E and F can do without if they so please.

The APF website has a list of all DZs in Australia. The biggest in QLD is Ramblers, at Toogoolawah, approximately 2hrs outside Brisbane. Cessna Caravans, nice facilities, and a swimming pool make it an excellent, though expensive, DZ.

They run regular Learning Curve camps, aimed at helping newer jumpers acquire the kind of skills that'll keep them alive in the longer term. Well worth attending if you're around at the right time.

If you are in the North of West australia there is Wickham skydivers near Karatha, Fun DZ but only a 182 jumpship (except at easter)
