. . . but they just had a judge order a Utility Company to demolish a brand new 150 million dollar complex they just built because they did'nt follow the County's rules. "Aquilla" sp?

The judge also gave them time to get the proper documentation. It would be naive to think that the plant will be demolished. What is likely to happen has nothing to do with skydiving or the issues surrounding the DZ.

Now I jump regularly at a King Air DZ and we don't always fill every load and we do have shutdowns due to lack of jumpers. We also have a few other DZ's in the area (Orlando). I usually go to the DZ for at least one day each weekend. If it were a Cessna DZ I'd jump less and probably scuba on alternate weekends. I suspect there are other things to do in the area (row beans, watch corn grow, tip cows? travel outside the area to jump.)

If two DZ's can keep their aircraft full on the same weekend, my guess is there is enough business in the area and if one is operating a turbine regularly it's quite possible that more people will jump more often. Many of the people I met on opening day were, like me, professionals who have the money to support their habit.

I love our free market system of competition. Look what it's done for you folks up north - two weekends in a row with turbines at two drop zones and people having a ball at both. What's next? A wind tunnel at Worlds of Fun? I may have to move back to KC!

BTW - Yes I was there, Yes I've jumped at both DZ's, and Yes I'm a Power Generation Industry insider and know what's going on with that power plant.

Blue Skys KC - hope the wind dies down.

I had a good time at the grand opening. Every wuffo I talked to seemed positive. I think it is complete nonsense to think that the KC area cannot support a turbine. Now the stupid people that do not realize what the have going, thats a different story. Common sense says that competition is a great thing. It raises the bar.

Competition is a good thing. And you know if you have the greatest place in the world you don't need to worry about what the guy across town is doing.People will come check it out and stay because how they are treated or maybe because they like the people or the plane.Even the places with bad vibes have a purpose, the assholes need a place to skydive too.

I guess they do need a place to jump too. This topic really hits home. We used to have access to a Caravan and we truly couldn't support it. The KC thing is a different story. We sure miss the plane, and I am sure they will to if it is not supported out of stupid pride.

I'm laughing my butt off about this thread. :DSkydivers acting like children.

It sounds like the new DZ had a good time. A lot of my friends went, I stayed behind due to lack of $$$. They all had a good time, and really enjoyed the otter.

I'm sure the "other DZ" people had fun too... now they please keep their boogie info in the other thread?!?

So what, who the hell cares anyway? i heard the loads weren't even full and so what if the numbers of jumps were a little higher. most of the draw was from a long distance. are those people going to be there every weekend to support it?

i don't jump up here anyway much. just because i have a place up here doesn't mean i care about how many jumpers KC Skydiving Center put in the air. but the only reason i have posted here is to make it known that i back tommy all the way because he is right and has been down this road before and he knows what he is talking about regarding drop zone operations. these people at KC skydiving center have no instructional ratings, no aircraft operations experience, no FAA licenses of any kind and no real knowledge of DZ operations, (just jumping at one does not constitute knowing how to run one). when it goes bad, they will just pull out and leave the others dz's with the fallout to deal with.

you have to have a license to be an emt and virtually every other type of career area or business that involves being responsible for other's lives does too. there ought to be a strict license in order to operate a drop zone and aircraft. but we'll never see that because it would make it too hard for dz's to start up and thus hinder the promotion of skydiving by organizations like uspa which is a spineless organization that has no bark or bite and does not even enforce it's own BSR's when broken like ed scott stood up and said in front of the harrisonville city council. remember independence? prime example. i was there and so was uspa to witness the repeated, ongoing violations but they did nothing, people are dead and millions of dollars in lawsuits later, they obviously haven't learned anything yet.

Fine, then get out of this thread. I've let you state your opinions but now you're just plain being rude by continuing. Let the KC people have fun at their dz and go back to your own. If the dropzone fails, then everyone can tell you that you were right. :S

I know I had a great time. It was good to be back in my old stomping grounds. I got to see a whole lot of familiar faces and make some quality jumps. I wish Paul and Jo the best on keeping the place going strong. It will take a while to let the dust settle.

Especially when the current operations feel so much like a boogie. By that, I mean, packing under a tent on a tarp, jumping with people from at least 7 states (my count, maybe there were more), port-a-potties, and other such "boogie-ish" amenities (or lack thereof). If they keep up with the determination and friendly atmosphere, I don't think they'll have any problems at all.

Don
I will never argue your stance on USPA or anything like that, thats your opinion and I share a few of thouse thoughts as well.
But no one has to have any type of rating to run a dz. as it has been stressed before this is another business and it's that simple.

This is where I stand and I will make it known.
As I stated to you in a PM sent today, I have no stake in this no dz. By that I mean that I am not on staff nor do I wish to be on staff. I am no longer intrested in working in skydiving at this time.
If I wanted to be on staff somewhere i the KC area I would have stayed with Tommy and MRVS. I like Tom and he has been great to me.

I now am a customer that spends money. I work hard for my money and thats the kicker right there.
I am an EMT by choice. EMS people don't make great money. in fact I make 10$ per hour dealing with blood, guts and vomit! and sometimes less and sometimes more.
Put the math behind that and I have to work 2 hrs before taxes to pay for one skydive! thats two hours of sick and injured people.
I have the day to day bills we all have as well and I am thankfull to have Christina to help out with that dept or else I would not be able to attend school at this time.
Yesterday I dropped 350$ for two summer classes. I have gone over my monthly budget and now can't make any jumps this month because of school.
But when I want to jump I want the altitude of 13.5 wich the new dz will offer.
the other local dz's go to 9,000ft and cost 20$, the new dz is the same price in a roomy otter going to 13,500ft.
Throw in the fact that skydive kansas is 1.5 hrs away, skydivekc is also an hour+ away as well as mrvs and with the new dz within 30mins.. it's as simple as that.
I am a fool sometimes, but I try not to be foolish with the money or what little money I have.

I hope this helps some of you Don and others that may question my motives.. and one more note..
i just don't like the dirty games that where played bu other dzo's. that also helped influence myself as well as others.
