SkymonkeyONE 4 #6 March 24, 2006 Thomaston is reasonably close if you must jump a turbine (Trey has a nice King Air), but if a Cessna is fine, then you can roll over to Tuskeege via hwy 80 (about 35 miles from Benning) to www.skydiveopelika.net. They fly two cessnas there. Chuck

psf 1 #8 March 25, 2006 Thank you, I am very comfortable with cessna's, and it looks like a good site. Now, I just need to get back to the states, and have my chute waiting for me. Less then 25 days to go, and I'm stateside bound.ignorance is not bliss
redrocka 0 #9 March 25, 2006 I'm actually getting ready to head down to Benning for AIT (reclassing Infantry...) and was wondering if there are any active jumpers stationed there? Anybody know? Buehler? Buehler? I have no idea if I'll even have free time to jump but I figured I'd better find out just in case... How long does it take to drive to Thomaston from post? Sweet Gravity... FireMedicJumper 0 #10 March 26, 2006 Come on over to Skydive Opelika in Tuskegee. We have jumpers from Benning at the DZ quite frequently. It's a great family type atmosphere and soldiers are always very welcome. Drop by the website at www.skydiveopelika.net and feel free to ask questions in the forums there. morningdove831 0 #11 March 26, 2006 Skydive Opelika is a great family-type drop zone not far from Benning. We have several up jumpers and students who come from Benning. Aircraft is a Cessna 182 and we have 2 of 'em, like SkyMonkeyOne said above. www.skydiveopelika.net One who looks for a friend without faults will have none. -- Hasidic Saying
matthewcline 0 #12 March 26, 2006 There are planty of active jumpers there. Go to Thamaston and you will see the Post Team Training. Go to Opelika and you will see many a former Ft.Benning-ite jumping too.An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! redrocka 0 #13 March 26, 2006 Cool deal, thanks. I still have to get ahold of the training brigade to find out what kind (if any) of free time I'll have for the next couple months, but I plan on spending as much of it as possible in freefall... Sweet Gravity...
matthewcline 0 #14 March 26, 2006 If your going to re-class and are headen to the ITB, forget about it. You might get one 3 day pass in the whole deal. Now after graduation, take litle leave and tour the GA DZ's on your way to your next assignment. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! redrocka 0 #15 March 26, 2006 Yeah, that's pretty much what I figured... I'll definitely be hittin' up as many DZ's as I can to and from though. Sweet Gravity...
anewempire 0 #16 March 27, 2006 there's the thomaston (sp) dz that i would probably guess is your closest but not sure. i actually go to school at auburn and i jump over in pell city, al which is about 1:30 from auburn. there's also one in cedartown but i think that might be like 2:30-3hrs from ft. benning but i'm not positive. oh yeah, there's one in monroe, ga as well. it's just a little passed atlanta if i remember correctly. i jumped there once but forget how long it took to get there
