Skydive Jacksonville is growing

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to say that Skydive Jacksonville is now running more fun jumpers again as oppose to just tandems. Greg and Patty are sending the C-206 from California this week and will be sending up more fun jumpers. I know that there are many other DZ's in Florida that are larger and well established but I wanted to post this to represent my home DZ because the managers have really taken this place from "nothing" to "something fun" in just one year. Hats off to Karen and Alan for growing Skydive Jacksonville and I'm excited to see where we will be in just another year. I encourage anyone locally in the JAX area or northeast Florida to come out and visit us. We would love to see you for the jumps and BBQ.

Sincerely,

doubt it, its the same owners as Titusville... staff is shafted and so are the sport jumpers... but it is a pretty view... if they will let you on a load...

Theres also a dz on fernadinia beach ... its a even better view
Sudsy Fist: i don't think i'd ever say this

alan and karen are great, but the owners of jax have treated upjumpers very poorly in the past..

take the extra 40 minutes south on hwy17 and check out palatka..

22$ to 13.5 in a turbine versus
jacksonville 25$ to 10.5 in a 206....

hmmm

not to mention the staff and regulars in pka are way cool. also a dedicated facility, showers,
free camping, bonfire, and keg at nite..

thats why i call palatka home.

ive never had a bad experience in pka, or been treated poorly....

i cant say that for jax.. not even close...

real dz versus tandem factory.... thats easy...

ALL dz's give priority to tandems--Jax, Palatka, whereever--they don't make money off fun jumpers----Fun jumpers get the slots left over--the plane determines how many that is--if a dz has only one 182 flying a fun jumpers expectations should be quite low--with a 206 there will be more capacity--so maybe more fun jumping--I have 100 jumps at Jax and many more in Titusville and Palatka and I have only had positive experiences with all of these dz's and dzo's. Don't bash tandems--they are paying the way for all of us;)

well i understand that.... i too have over a hunderd jumps in jax, and many more in palatka...

however ive never been told in pka.. "no were not flying fun jumpers"
or "go away, we just dont care" ...

cant say that for jax.. although it was two seasons ago... and im not bashing tandems, i understand the purpose they serve... however
i AM attempting to educate a young jumper( who is in the same position i was in two years ago) as to the truth about greg and pattys jax reputation.

there are reasons why all experienced jumpers in jacksonville have gone elsewhere. and you know this.

Reputations aside, though, like was already said,

$22 caravan - 13.5

$25 c206 - 10.5

Hmm

No brainer to me.

But now like i said, reputation aside, i have made so many friends in Palatka that I would continue jumping down there regardless of aircraft here in jax.
Dont get me wrong, if I can get a jump or two in during the week because they are open, I will. But Palatka is my home.

Best of luck to Jax though. I hope for their sake they can turn that reputation around.

i think if u checked your facts:
the new manager has a different attitude than the previous manager (rip) regarding fun jumpers.
the 206 will be going to 13000 (not 10.5) rather quickly (the 206 has a new and big engine).
making comments based on experiences from 2 years ago is very outdated and simply no longer the case. personally, i drive farther to get bigger planes and more fun jumpers, but look at this dz for what it is now--not what it may have been. I expect with the new plane there will be much more opportunity for fun jumpers who ARE WELCOMED PER MY CHAT WITH THE CURRENT MANAGER TODAY. freedom of choice is a wonderful thing. ;)

I apologize for the misconception.

However, that goes with what I was saying. I wish them the best and that the reputation changes because I hear the same thing, that they are different and they welcome fun jumpers. And I will get jumps there, just that Palatka is my home. Thats all. :)

i think if you checked your facts you would see that it was never the managers descision to go/no go on fun jumpers...

that decisioin came from the top. the very top.

many times nick (rip motherfucker) defied that decision because even he saw that it was bullshit....

but even to this day that policy hasnt changed, they just have a bigger plane (on the way..) therfore they have more room for an extra slot or two...

but if you call in advance, and the pilot is around you can probably get on a load, if there are enough of you...

and let me reiterate that alan and karen are fucking awesome.. good people. im not saying they cant turn this place around, its just ive seen this three times now, (as have you jguy) so im a bit skeptical....

The DZ in Fernandina was kicked out by Nassau county in 1998 after that Planet Radio stunt that ended in a life flight.B| (So I'm told from the locals after moving here)

Does anyone else find it funny that we made a SPORT out of an EMERGENCY PROCEDURE?!?!

*** There was no Planet Radio "stunt" there. A D.J. who happened to jump there did a low turn and smashed himself up pretty good. I hope the new place does well, it will be a good place for me to jump when I fly my G5 up there to be washed.

When did they re-open??? I was just at the airport last week talking to the flying club. They are the ones who informed me that the DZ was no more.

Does anyone else find it funny that we made a SPORT out of an EMERGENCY PROCEDURE?!?!

The owner is gonna be the pilot and Im not sure if she has finished. I do know a few people who did jump with Glenn Bangs not to long ago to finish up their AFF. As far as I know its just starting and will be full time soon.

Low turn = spiraling down from altitude, so dizzy/disoriented that he didn't realize he was about to hit the ground... If I recall the story, he was naked? :o:D

Shhh... you hear that sound? That's the sound of nobody caring!
