sailorgirl8888 0 #1 June 29, 2006 HI, I was looking into taking a few friends skydiving for my 18th bday and I was wondering if anyone knew of any places in the Maryland area with reasonable priced dives. Also, I was wondering what people think of just going up in a plane with a friend piloting and hiring an instructor? Is that legal, I think that would help cut prices

You also wouldnt be insured and I'd question the competance of any instructor that would be willing to do a tandem that way. Go to a USPA member dropzone and have fun__ My mighty steed
meistwer 0 #3 June 29, 2006 I very much doubt that they will let your mate to pilot the plane. I would recommend you to totally forget about it. Happy birthday btw! Have fun Blue ones
Thanatos340 1 #4 June 29, 2006 Here is a good place to look for Local Dropzones.. http://www.dropzone.com/dropzone/North_America/United_States/index.html Call each one in your area directly and talk to them about your options. Most people choose to do a Tandem for their first jump. If you want to go solo, Be prepared to pay a little more for training and the jump. Be careful when searching the web looking for local dropzones, There is a Company called Skyride that has 100`s of websites for Dropzones that dont really exist. Make sure that when you call somewhere you are speaking directly with the Dropzone. If they will not tell you EXACTLY where they are located without first getting a Credit Card from you then you may be talking to Skyride and Not the Dropzone. Quotea friend piloting and hiring an instructor? Not realistic at all.
skymama 37 #5 June 29, 2006 IMHO, I think you should be more concerned about safety than prices. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
Tink1717 2 #6 June 29, 2006 The prices for first time jumpers vary by only a little bit. What do you consider a "reasonable priced" dive? Your scenario of going up in your friends plane is totally unrealistic. It is, under the right circumstances, legal, but you will spend far more to get your friends plane ready for the jump and to hire an instructor who has all the gear needed than you would if you just show up at a commercial or club drop zone. If you're in MD, I recommend Skydive DelMarVa (www.skydivedelmarva.com).Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... It really pisses him off. -The World Famous Tink. gweeks 1 #7 June 29, 2006 You have a lot of choices. Skydive Delmarva gets my vote because that's where I go It is in Laurel, DE on the way to the beaches. Great scenery, and friendly and safe instructors. There are group rates depending on the size of your group. Also check out Skydive Orange in Fredricksburg, VA Skydive Chambersburg in Chambersburg, PA Skydive Crosskeys in New Jersey near Philadelphia These all have large planes that can take you and your friends at the same time. There are also some dzs with smaller planes (Cesnas) around which may be a little cheaper. The trade off would be that you won't go as high and you won't be able to jump with as many of your friends on the same plane ride. Just off the top of my head: Skydive Ocean City in Ocean City, MD Skydive Maytown in Marietta, PA The Skydivin' Place in Littlestown, PA Hiring an instructor and using a plane with a friend piloting isn't a realistic option.
