Scottish skydiving

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I'm a virgin poster on these forums but they seem a good source of information so I might as well make the most of it! I'm heading home soon back to the shores of Scotland - not exactly the greatest climate for skydiving but I need to find a home dropzone and would like to hear from anyone that has jumped at either Strathallan (where I jumped static line as a student a few times) or St Andrews. As far as I know these are the only dropzones, mmmm, which one to choose.... I might as well metion that my licenses are Australian (APF) so any info would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not back till December and I think I might head to Spain straight away as I haven't jumped for about 2 months and I want to try and get current again (I'm in Vietnam- ain't no skydivers here!)
Thanks people!

jump them both and make up your own mind Jim, its a case may just come down to traveling time or distance but you wont know till you try. They both run cessna 206 with a 185 at st.Andrews. you missed the progression week last month at strath where they had black knights super porter with jumps from 14k.

As for your licence best people to ask is the CCI at the first one you visit better to phone midweek or contact the BPA head office directly and ask them.

hope that helps you out :)

Hey Jim,

Rupert here B|

As Billy mentions, there are a few DZs in Scotland, you can see them at the BPA Website. You should try each of the three DZs, cos everyone has their own idea of what makes a good DZ...I have jumped at all three, and they all offer something different.

I started, like you, at Strathallan, and I now instruct, pack, and am on the club committee there, so I'm a bit biased! We're a club, unlike any other DZ in the UK, and have an unique atmosphere / ethos because of that. If you fancy going abroad over Christmas, a bunch (10-20) of us will be going to Skydive Algarve. We have just bought a third Cessna 206, which should be appearing at the DZ this weekend.

As far as your licence etc. is concerned, we would sit down with you and work out where you fit into the BPA system, and apply for the appropriate licences/stickers. PM me if you want to work out more details, or need a lift/help nearer the time B|

Thanks for your advice! I think I will head back to Strathallan and also try out St Andrews as well.

Rupert, how could I forget - it was yourself who introduced me to static line (forever grateful!) and I was Eddie's first live tandem at Strathallan as well... but you didn't tell me it was his first until we got to the ground ya bastards! ;) Probably for the best to be honest but I got a cheap DVD out of it anyway!

I'm just looking for a good place to make some friends and never have too much difficulty in organising 4-ways etc, can't do anything about the weather though. I've been a bit spoilt in Australia as my last 60 jumps were made at an awesome dropzone with a good community of skydivers (tandems were a rare sight) - and 15000ft loads in a cessna caravan. Can't take these things for granted! I'd be very interested in heading out to Spain if you wouldn't mind me tagging along so I'll send you a PM you closer to the time when I've assessed my cash flow! Could you let me know your dates if possible. Anyway, looking forward to getting to skydive with my compatriots!:)
