skysmurf2 0 #1 September 24, 2006 Having searched the forums for the DZ in Dubai - there seems to be little information. I am considering a move to Dubai and would love to know about the DZ, if coaching is available (FS and/or FF), what the gear rental is like (or should I buy my own?), and what the DZ atmosphere is like. If anyone has any information I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
Zeppo 0 #2 September 24, 2006 I'm actually in Abu Dhabi right now (not far from Dubai). The only dropzone that I found in the UAE was www.uaqaeroclub.com. I'd be jumping there today except it's too far away. (About $100 by taxi one way) I don't know much about the DZ other than the website, and a few comments I've received from it. I'd love to get the chance to jump there, but it's just too much to get there. Sorry I couldn't have been of more help. What goes up, must come DOWN!!! skysmurf2 0 #3 September 24, 2006 Thanks - I have had a look at the website before. I guess what I am really after is the atmosphere at the club and also, if I jump there, should I buy my own rig first. I´ll go there on 15.Oct and also thought about having one or more jumps there (well, if it´s nice there I should have at least 10-20)... ;-) Did you find out anything about the dropzone??? Seems the last posts are from 2005...
 grosfion 0 #5 September 25, 2006 Hi, I will be there end of November. If I do move to Dubai it would be at the end of October/ early November this year. Still not 100% sure though about the move. I had a lot of business in Dubai while I was there and got to the club quite often. Great place, excellent facilities, but not great from a plane or an organisation perspective. Since they sold their Grand Caravan, they operated a Cessna 172 only with preference going to tandems. They've subsequently purchased an Airvan which has helped the situation marginally. There is student gear available, but always a good thing to have your own when you travel. The club members are good guys, but reading the forums, they are an unhappy group of jumpers. From my own perspective, I have never jumped so little in my entire skydiving career as I did those 2 years. And that's not for lack of trying. PM me if you need more info. Sadly I didn´t jump at all, during thge week the plane was not there but in Abu Dhabi for maintenance and on the weekends I had some other things to do. Sorry, but I can´t tell you more about the DZ. Only thing I can tell you is that they do jumps on the weekends (normally also during the weeks) and you can hire gear from the DZ. The DZ is located in the next emirate, 70 km from Dubai city. One more reason for me not to jump wre the extreme temperatures, around 40° celsius, so I stayed at the beach and the pool. My experience was that what I was told by the DZ about chances of jumping were not realistic - I spent the $100+ dollars each way to get to the DZ then could not get on a load (or more specifically was bumped off loads to let tandems go - the plane went up with TI, Tandem Student and camera - they did not let a solo jumper on). I did not get to jump before I got too hot / tired of waiting and gave up with no realistic chance of getting in the air, despite being there for several hours. I know that is how the smaller DZs make money but it is very frustrating after being told that there would be no problem making several jumps on the day I went and on that basis taking my rig from the UK, spending the dollars on taxis etc. I have since been back to Dubai but did not bother going to the DZ - once bitten etc.. Good luck, and I hope things have changed. *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless... I will be heading out to Dubai (permanently-ish) in the next few weeks and am looking forward to jumping at my new 'home' dz... Good to hear that they have kit hire as I need to work on that one. I also received an email about the Dubai Boogie 2007 - if anybody has any information on this I would really appreciate it thanks! Also to Grosfion if you get out there before me pls. let me know how you find it! Always had a ball - sometimes frustrations from lack of organisation or aircraft problems - but overall usually managed lots of skydives. Most times stayed in one of the cabanas by the lagoon down the end of the airfield - OK food and lots of beer. fergs
 Join the conversation You can post now and register later.
