moodyskydiver 0 #26 January 24, 2003 I usually dont wear rings to the DZ,but if I do I always leave them and my watch in my truck or gear bag when I get there.I have worn my closing pin necklace on jumps before though..starting to rethink that one too. I have seen/heard of people putting tape or a bandaid around wedding rings and then wearing gloves over them if they are insecure about taking them off.Not sure if it helps much though. faulknerwn 38 #27 January 25, 2003 Remember tho - its not just them breaking. I remember being told somewhere about a guy who was hurt from a hook turn, and one of his injuries was that the closing pin on his necklace became embedded in the soft spot in the neck. I warn everyone against jewelry on jumps. W
AggieDave 6 #28 January 25, 2003 Quotelosing the ring _and_ the finger all in one go Hmmm...Ok, well, the finger I can do with out, but I couldn't do with out my Aggie Ring...--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." freefallfreak 0 #29 January 25, 2003 Quote Also those with pierced nips should consider wearing a covering while jumping. I have seen the rings torn out here as well. Ouch! OMG!! I guess I'll have to start using bandaids or maybe tape to cover mine...that sounded pretty nasty... FFF "Upon seeing the shadow of a pigeon, one must resist the urge to look up." floormonkey 0 #30 January 25, 2003 I used to have a spiral earring that had exposed ends and would get caught on lines while I was packing, but I always wear a helmet. As far as nipple rings, i had to switch to barbells after losing a weight/bead due to harness rub.
billdo 0 #31 January 27, 2003 Amy makes a great safety point. BUT! Common things being common, don't bother taking off your jewelry if you're not already wearing a helmet and gloves. TONS more people are injured by NOT wearing these items than by wearing jewelry I always say regarding gloves that a $30 pair of gloves are a lot cheaper than skin at the hospital. They charge a LOT for that stuff! And I re-affirmed it recently when a brand new pair of Newmans were pretty trashed by a very simple hand-down landing on the concrete after I overshot the landing grass. Really, I was happy to ruin the gloves and not my hands.
JeffGordon 0 #32 January 27, 2003 I know of a jumper who jumped with his car keys in his jeans pocket. The keys got under his leg strap and on opening, driven deep into his thigh. Probably a good idea to empty your pockets as well.

I certainly don't want that injured anymore then he would!
