Ms.A 0 #1 March 30, 2007 Hey All! I'll be heading to Oahu for a week of skydiving and play. Never been. Very excited to jump there. Who's been to that DZ? I may or may not be taking a rig - do they have rentals? Is it friendly? A tandem factory? Also - any ideas on where to hike, empty beaches, good margaritas, luau's would be appreciated! Otherwise...happy jumping! DSE 5 #2 March 30, 2007 This probably should be in "places to jump?" Had good/bad experiences at both Pacific Coast and Skydive Hawaii. Went to Pacific Coast in May of 06, no one there wanted to speak to us when we walked into the lanai area. They had a lot of tandems. Walked over to Skydive Hawaii, and were immediately greeted by several. Did 7 jumps/two days. They're definitely a tandem company tho. Went back to both in December of 06, and Skydive Hawaii was really busy with tandems, so went to Pacific Coast. No one said a word, even after we stood around manifest and watched videos from a standing position in front of their manifest. There were people behind manifest, but they were talking about personal stuff. Determined to jump, I went to the car, got my rig, walked back in. I was immediately greeted and it was like they hadn't seen me the first time I was in there. Got on a couple loads, but tandems were busy that day. Got on 4 loads the next day before winds closed it down. Their King is very fast to altitude. I don't know if they offer rentals, I'd imagine they do. Went on New Year's Day, same story, kinda ignored. Skydive Hawaii wasn't as busy, and was greeted, and then invited on a 5 way. Did several loads that day, not too many tandems. Their caravan sure is ugly though. Skydive Hawaii does have some rentals. From my view? I like the people at Skydive Hawaii much better. I like the aircraft Pacific Coast operates. Landing areas are the same area, PCS tends to land slightly further west. Watch the rotors from the trees just north of the landing area. You'll love the North Shore, lots to do there, and no crowds of tourists by comparison to Waikiki. Don't miss Kua ii'naa' Burger in Haleiwa. Pirates Cove luau's are great. Not so impressed with the Polynesian Cultural Center Luau, by comparison it's like McHawaiian vs hand-cooked food. Check out Big Kahuna Rentals if you're into motorcycles, and plan on spending time in Sharks Cove near Sunset. Best fun water beach, IMO, is Waimea. This time of year is great because you can jump the rocks and get about 30' of air. Empty beaches, just 1 mile from Dillingham field, you'll find the Kenai Point area, beaches are mostly deserted, huge waves, very private, and lots of open space. You can walk around the point to the west side of the island. Keep your personals about you at all times. Oahu is famous for tourists "losing" belongings, including skydiving rigs. Can you tell I'm there a lot?
yamtx73 0 #3 March 30, 2007 I was just there a few days ago and jumped at Pacific Skydiving.. they were busy with tandems but I was immediately greeted and given the dz breifing... I felt like I was at my home dz... Skydive Hawaii loads the fun jumpers first and drops the tandems at 10,000 before going the rest of the way up for the fun jumpers. Pacific takes everyone up to 14,000 and lets the fun jumpers out first. Either way you'll have the time of your life jumping Oahu's north shore!! There are several outs (the polo feild and the feild behind the dz) but you really don't need them unless you get a bad spot. Watch the turbulence off the trees to the north of the landing zone, other than that it's an amazing place to jump. The only naturals in this sport shit thru feathers... TXCOS4 0 #6 March 30, 2007 Just jumped at Skydive Hawaii last week on wednesday and again on sunday. HAd a great time, on wednesday I brought in a bunch of new kids that all did tandem and skydive hawaii paid for my jump ticket. I also had a buddy that was still student and they let him jump with an AFF with no real problems. Get there early in the morning because the winds do tend to pick up pretty high. I watched some tandems land later in the day and I was glad I was not in the air with the strong winds. The caravan is pretty cool looking there becasue Ron Artis painted it, which is pretty cool. He paints a lot of things on the North Shore and has a gallery out there too if you have time check it out. Both places go through some tandems all day, but they are all about the fun jumpers as well. Also this time of year it might look cloudy and rainy for a second but it clears up real quick, so dont worry about the weather. As for hiking and such we went to the Mauna Willa (spelling?) falls and jumped off some cliffs which was pretty cool. Hope you have a good time

I liked it better when it was just white with oil streaks. Now it's a weird conglomeration with oil streaks. But it is a comfortable jumpship. Forgot to mention, Noel (behind manifest) likes red wines; it'll probably help you get on those close loads if a bottle just falls out of your kit. peggs82 0 #8 March 31, 2007 I was there in during the month of august when I had around 70ish jumps. Went to Pacific. Had to wait a couple days before they would let me jump due to winds. I can deffinetly understand that. Like others said, watch out for the rotors off of the trees. Where you turn in on final is where your going to land, so don't get yourself in trouble. Otherwise, have fun and enjoy the view. Don't forget to catch the north shore. By far the way to enjoy Oahu!
HALO1 0 #9 April 2, 2007 Pacific is my home DZ (but I jump Skydive Hawaii as well). If for any reason you are not taken care of, come find me and I'll ensure you're squared away... Even if that means walking you next door. As suggested in other posts, winds tent to pick up late morning/early afternoon and make for some INTERESTING landings for those not accustomed. Both places have rentals, but I suggest you bring your rig if possible. Nothing beats skydiving the North Shore on a clear day. Don't be sexist… Broads hate that.
