smerch 0 #1 January 7, 2003 I finished my AFF5 and was going to go onto my level 6, but things got crazy and I didn't go back, it got to cold also. That was in late August, and I want to start up again in the spring. What will I have to do to start up again? Will I have to take a test or go back a level? or (the dreaded one) go all the way back to AFF1?
CrazyIvan 0 #2 January 7, 2003 You will have to repeat the LAST level you passed. Don't worry.__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you.
DJL 235 #3 January 7, 2003 Hey, don't let a little cold weather scare you away. Just get a pair of neoprene gloves and head on out. The winter is great for AFF because, depending on your DZ, the instructors will be less likely to be distracted with their dual roll as tandem instructors, there will be fewer other AFF jumpers, and the crowd will be mostly the hard-core home DZ jumpers who you will be glad to get to know. -Doug"I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Sebazz1 2 #5 January 7, 2003 I see these responses from non JM's. Interesting. Well Smerch, I think it will depend where you are going through student progression. At the DZ I currently work at the first thing you would have to do is some ground refresher training. Since you have not made a jump in more than 30 days. Reviewing all possible emergency procedures, etc. Then depending on your past performance you would have to redo a level three or four. Depending on your performance on that jump you would then be able to return to the last jump you left off on. Level 5 or 6. Jumping in the winter is your decision. But currency is so important. For begginers and experienced people alike. If you you can jump once every week through AFF, at the least, then the learning curve is so much higher and the safety level increases tremendously. Hope all goes well, Good luck!
SkymonkeyONE 4 #6 January 8, 2003 Here at Raeford, I would have that person step back to an ISP (which is what you should all be following by now) Cat C number 2 . That's basically an "old" level three with only one JM. More than 30 days out of currency mandates a step back on this dropzone, but a break this long definitely merits caution on the part of the school. I just started AFF in August, and I'm at Jim' Crouch's school, so of course we are following the ISP. I thought that everyone was, but I am amazed at the number of messages here from current students who still are doing the old program. In fact, I don't think I've seen one person talking about the ISP here. Personally, after buying and reading the SIM, I would have been very confused and concerned if we were not following it. I don't know why many schools haven't switched over yet. Once again, thanks for saying what this very inexperienced skydiver has been thinking!
