Kansas City

Recommended Posts

So, I'm working in Kansas City for the summer. I've heard (and read some of the stuff on here) about some of the politics out here in KC. I plan on taking a bunch of guys from work out to jump, any recomendations on where to go.
The threads I searched seemed mostly like squabbling from a year and a half ago, so I have no idea how much it applies to now.:S

Thanks:)

Hi Balls

Since your going to be there all summer (hot stuff[:/])

Maybe you can Jump at a couple of places in the metro plex to check out the vibes and make your own decision about the best place to take your buds for whatever kind of jumping their going to be doing.

Shit airplane, minimum altitude, standing in the hot sun, long wait, grumpy TM's & DZO:S

You the man! you know the what to look for and questions to ask, maybe a cool evening after work for a tandem.

You should definitely check out The Kansas City Skydiving Center (www.kcskydiving.com). Lots of cool people and no politics. I've even heard that Jimmy Coiner, the Midwest Freefly Legend, jumps there!

Yep, I second that. All of the staff and fun-jumpers at KCSC are great and they are also the closest DZ to KC. You certainly can't go wrong with them.

I would say that KC has some great dz's to choose from, each has thier diffrent take on why they are the best and the other guy in town is crap!
Kansas city skydive center,LSPC and k states club are great, but Freefall Express in Mt Vernon Mo is Kansas citys fastest growing drop zone bar none.. there are more KC people driving down south then anywhere else for a reason.

Yep check them all out. Here's my take at the ones I've jumped at:

Skydive Kansas is my home DZ. It's a fun place to jump. The packing area is nice and inside. You can get on a ton of loads. I think I did 22 jumps there two weeks ago. The plane is also nice and in good shape. The do have some policies regarding wingloading, hook-turns, and AADs. Check it out so you know if you can jump there. I'm more than happy to jump with you. Their TIs have 2000 jumps and 1400 jumps accordingly.

Skydive K-State is the college club at Kansas State. They operate out in Wamego, KS. Their C182 is a wide body which is nice. They have one tandem instructor and he seems to be a really nice guy. This place has a good vibe and I like the people there. I should get out there more than I do.

Air Capital Dropzone is located in Wichita. I've only been there a few times but had fun when I went. Martin the DZO is about 10 feet tall and if he wore a dark wig would be able to do a hell of a Borat impression.

Missouri River Valley Skydiving is a huge place. They have more outs then I know what to do with. I've only jumped there once at a boogie but had a good time. I wish the weather would have created. The owner is a Master Rigger.

Skydive Kansas City I've never been able to jump there. Not because I don't want to I just haven't made it up that way yet.

Kansas City Skydiving Center I haven't jumped here since they got rid of the Beech and moved to Dearborn. The two times I went there I had a good time and that plane climbed super fast. If you go out there make sure you get a hold of Joe Thomas (jdthomas) on these boards. He's the S&TA there (correct me if I'm wrong Joe), and should be able to let you know when they'll be open because I don't know if they are on a regular schedule yet.

Lincoln Sport Parachute Club is a fun place. They throw a hell of a boogie. I've been there two times on non-boogie trips to the DZ and had fun. This place had a really good vibe as well.

Freefall Express is down south a ways. I've only been there for the Hillbilly Boogie my 1st year jumping and had a blast. They have some nice people down there, at least the time I went down there they did.

Heck all the places are fun. If you go into any of them with a good attitude you'll have a good time, of course that is true in most things. I'm an optimist about things what can I say.

Drop me a PM if you have any other questions.

I'll chime back in here, if the drive is not an issue for you LSPC will blow the doors off of those Kansas DZ's. :P:P I didn't make it up there this year but it sounds like you just missed one hell of a good party at thier annual boogie.

My home Dropzone for many Years has bee Skydive KState, and we have a huge representation from the KC Crowd, and 1/3 of our Jumpers.... If you want, touch base and PM me and I can get you a ride out there on the weekends for sure.

I would also really recommend The Kansas City Skydiving Center. Paul E. is a good friend of mine, and he has worked really hard to create a Dropzone with a great vibe for both Students and for Fun jumpers.

I'm not to informed on the KC DZ Scene but I have been to MVRS and they have a great facility and friendly and family oriented staff, my suggestion would be to head out that way. In the end most DZ in KC will offer you the best possible service.

Have fun ;-)
