NY & New England Skydiving

Recommended Posts

Hi there!

I recently started jumping down in Florida to avoid the cold but I live in New York so I'm in sort of the same predicament. From what I understand the Ranch in new york is a great DZ to be at. Check the USPA DZ listing or use google to check out DZ's nearest you that you may be interested in. Most of them have websites detailing their aircraft and facilities. You never know what the vibe will be like until you get there so try visiting the nearest ones to you and you might find what you're looking for.

The only other dz i've jumped at is EndlessMountain Skydiving in Penn. which is probably way far from you (but I recommend them all the same). It's about 2.5 hours from upstate New York where I live.

Also bear in mind you may want to call ahead of time and find out if they are jumping this time of year (only some DZ's are year-round).

good luck!
Andrew

Connecticut Parachutists, Inc. is the only DZ in the area (all of new england) that's open year round. You can start jumping on saturday.

Where in CT? We're neighbors (it's a small state :)
As far as the best DZ, well, that depends on what you like and how far you want to drive. You'll have a lot of great choices within about 3 hours. Check out CPI this weekend if you can and then travel around when the other DZs come out of hibernation in a few months.

I just moved to Southern Connecticut. In your opinion, what is the best DZ around, and when can I start jumping? (I am not used to cold jumping at all).

IMHO...

It might not be close enough for a day trip, but take a weekend and come up to Skydive New England in Lebanon, Maine. Full-time Twin Otter, bonfires, camping, food onsite, night life, live music on occasion, private airport, friendly people. Bring your mountain bike, ATV, etc...there are hundreds of acres and trails.

Folks are friendly if you are...its easy to find jump buddies so don't worry about coming up solo....just tell manifest you are looking for people and they'll help hook you up.

We don't jump year round, but we've got a pretty friendly crew over in Danielson.
We'll be back open in the spring. We've got some of our crew over at CPI until the weather warms back up.

Learn to be happy. You can't be there for anybody else in life if you can't learn to be there for yourself.

I live in southern ct as well, in ridgefield, i started jumping at the Ranch in Gardiner NY, its only an hour or so from where i am, the people are incredible and the views are gorgeous. i'll be pursuing my A license there as soon as the school starts up again, i've already done 5 tandems with them and i couldn't have asked for better instructors.
