Katinka 0 #1 April 11, 2008 Hello north west skydivers! This Florida flatlander is planning a trip to Washington, and I would love to do some jumps there as well. Any opinions on being able to get a view of Mt. Rainier on the way down??
peckerhead 0 #2 April 11, 2008 Pretty much any DZ in Washington, in fact you can see it from Oregon. Skydive Toledo is the closest and they have the best view of Mt. St. Helens.
RB_Hammer 0 #3 April 11, 2008 Don't worry, if you get half clear weather, there is no way that you will not be able to see it."I'm not lost. I don't know where I'm going, but there's no sense in being late." Mathew Quigley

NWFlyer 2 #6 April 11, 2008 Here's a couple recent threads on the Seattle-area DZs. Lots of friendly folks up here who will take good care of you (just as long as you don't show up during Lost Prairie, then the local DZs will be ghost towns...) http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3164728 http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3175456 "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Amazon 7 #7 April 11, 2008 Seeing Mt Rainier is a function of what month you will be here. Chances of seeing Mt Rainier on a skydive Beginning of August 100% Beginning of January 2% Skydive Toldeo is the closest to the SW. Kapowsin is almost as close over at Sanderson Field in Shelton
Andrewwhyte 1 #8 April 11, 2008 If you are jumping at on of the Drop zones close to Vancouver BC (~200 miles away) you can't see Ranier after you fall below about 2000'.
peckerhead 0 #9 April 11, 2008 You know I made at least 100 jumps at Kapowsin and I don't think I ever saw Mt Ranier on a skydive. And I jumped there in the summerBut I have seen it from Oregon many times, oh and Richland too.
linestretch 0 #10 April 11, 2008 Really?...how could you miss it? It's right here. I don't think you could get any closer. What a shame that DZ moved. edit to add....come to skydive oregon. It's not a ghost town during Lost Prairie....but the mountain does look smaller. On the bright side, Mt hood is pretty close....my pics & stuff! GPorter 0 #16 April 12, 2008 I'm not from the NW, but I did get a couple of jumps in at Skydive Oregon. Mts were beautiful. Put myself into a 360 and just watched the Mts all around me. And Yes I got to see Rainier. People at the Drop Zone were very cool and I had a lot of fun. Talk to some of the local jumpers when you get there and you should have no problem getting on some sort of load. Have fun!

On a good day we can see it at West Plains......but it has to be a good day - lots of other stuff to see from this side of the state if you want to venture over this way.....otherwise I am sure that Kapowsin, Snohomish, Toledo or Mt Vernon will suit your needs nicelyDPH # 2 "I am not sure what you are suppose to do with that, but I don't think it is suppose to flop around like that." ~Skootz~ I have a strong regard for the rules.......doc!
