wildfan75 1 #1 July 29, 2008 Can anyone give any good advice on an inexpensive (and moral) way to get from the San Diego airport to Perris? Or Anyone attending the camp headed that way and care to share the cost of a car rental or ground transportation? I'll be attending the big way camp from Sept 11-14th. I fly into SAN on Wed 9/10, arrive around 7pm and my return flight leaves on Mon 9/15 at around 2pm. Thanks in advance for any help!
skyfool 0 #2 July 30, 2008 I'll be flying into Long Beach on the 10th for the Big-Way camp. I'm planning on renting a car. I'd offer you (or anyone else) a ride, but San Diego is a little too far south from Long Beach.
padu 0 #3 July 30, 2008 Renting a car sounds like the best option, thanks to our non-existant public transportation network... San Diego to Perris should be a really short drive (less than 2 hours depending on traffic)Una volta che avrete imparato a Volare, camminerete sulla terra guardando il cielo perchè è là che siete stati ed è là che vorrete tornare. mdrejhon 8 #4 July 30, 2008 I was able to get rides both to and from LAX -- a much further proposition. Definitely be prepared to rent a car, but keep fishing for potential carpool buddies -- they definitely exist, as Perris P3 is a very international gathering and many fly into either SAN or LAX. The foreigners, like me, often fly into LAX because it's cheaper. (It was $700 for SAN versus $400 for LAX, enough to pay for a car rental if necessary) However, this year my priority is in finding a helping notetaker for video debriefs who's a non-participant in the bigways (I'm the deaf guy from the spring Perris P3). While many were so wonderfully helpful (especially thanks to Laura from UK!), since I'm trying to reach the 100-way leagues, I'm trying to minimize distraction in the video debrief room, so I am actively seeking out volunteers to help me (Paying $10 per video debrief for simple notetaking activity). I made a post here: Deaf guy at Perris Big Ways: Help for Video Debriefs? Suggestions?
tbrown 26 #5 August 3, 2008 Just to mention, as an Orange County local, it's always worth looking into flights to Long Beach or to the John Wayne Orange County airports. Both offer substantially lower fares than LAX and are reasonably close to the Perris-Elsinore dropzones. Most locals consider LAX their airport of last resort, when none of the others can get them where they need to go. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity ! But definitely not cheaper for international flights. Very few international flights go there conveniently, and even so I often have to pay extra and then switch planes 2 or 3 times (three-leg or four-leg) to go to "less international" airports. Even waiting at the airport curb a couple hours for a carpool and driving 1.5 hours from LAX to Perris, actually saves me time, hassle, and money. I tried to go to SAN, and almost did (it was only about $100-$150 more expensive this time around, compared to $300 more earlier), but there are too many stopovers. LAX allows me to do it in just two legs (one plane change). Less baggage hauling too! I tried LAX, SAN, Orange, Palm Springs. The only airport that could do it cheapest and only one stopover, was LAX...
