skydivermom 0 #1 September 6, 2008 Will be headed to South Padre Island for some fun next weekend. My family has been asking me about skydiving out there, but I can't seem to find any phone numbers. I have found a lot of info. on the web about skydiving on the beach/taking off from Brownsville airport, but no good contact info. Is there a club or small dz near there?Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:
Beachbum 0 #2 September 7, 2008 I know that there have been temporary dz's set up down there during spring break at least a couple of times ... but I don't know of a permanent dz. I'll check with a friend who lives down there and will post again if he knows of anything. As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks? AggieDave 6 #3 September 7, 2008 There was a DZ down there run by someone named something like Bob Steambock, if I remember his name correctly. As I understand it, he would open up if some jumpers called him and he wasn't busy, otherwise the DZ wasn't open. It was on the mainland and right next to a ICE detention facility. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." skydivermom 0 #4 September 7, 2008 Thanks a bunch guys! Someone PM'd me a phone number so we'll see what happens. Even if there is jumping, looks like a hurricane is going to be visiting about the same time I am. Woops! dqpacker 7 #5 September 8, 2008 I think Ike will miss South Padre Island. But the surf should be HUGE there. It looks like New Orleans will get hit again.
MarkBolton 0 #6 September 8, 2008 Bob and Enrique were a class act. I hope they are still in business and I hope you get to jump with them. Last time I was there they had a NOTAM for the whole island and were more than happy to put you out next to your hotel on the last jump of the day. skydivermom 0 #8 September 10, 2008 Looks like Ike indeed is coming to South Padre. We'll be moving our family reunion inland for sure. I did speak with Bob and he said they weren't skydiving out there anymore Maybe I'll meet him another time. Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you.
