Finger Lake dropzone safety record, general opinion

Recommended Posts

You won't get anyone to touch this with a ten foot pole. Go back and fill out all of your profile information then you MIGHT get someone tell you to piss off. This is a very tight knit and closed community. If you are looking for information on the dropzone I would suggest you stop by and ask them. As in all extreme sports, there have been and will be accidents. Usually more accidents only indicate more skydives. Busier dropzones have a higher chance of accidents for obvious reasons. If you are looking for a pace to make your first jump I would suggest going there and feeling the place out. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Good operation that has been in business for a long time. Nice and friendly people. UPSA affiliated with certified instructors. Give them a call or visit the DZ to check them out.

WONDERFUL Bunch of people..

the DZO has been dedicated to this sport for OVER 35 years...he's a pilot , a Rigger , a USPA Instructor, and a fine person...holds many credentials and MOST importantly the RESPECT of everyone within this geographic area....IF you know him,,, you would agree....

...so committed is he,,, to our sport,,,,, ,,, that when other places were shutting down, in the area... HE went out and BOUGHT an airport and selflessly gave of his knowledge, energy, time and $$$$$$$, to make it the SAFE and FUn place...that it is today, and that it HAS BEEN for almost THREE decades...He singlehandledly made it possible for dozens and dozens of experienced skydivers to have a dropzone at which to jump...

wanna know More????

PM me....I'll give ya' the straight scoop on the place....

IF I were to take a FAMILY member and a loved one,, out to make a tandem skydive....THAT is the place we would be visiting....

For ME>>>>> it's worth the hour and a half drive.... well worth it...

I second that. I've known the DZO for at least 30 years. He runs a good and tight ship without losing sight of the fact that you're supposed to be having fun.
His DZ is a member of the Parachute Industry Assn. (PIA) -- a rarity among small DZs -- and he attends the USPA/PIA DZO conference regularly to keep up with the latest info.
(and yes, it would be nice if you told us who you are)

yeah.....;) cold..... MAYBE in terms of air temperature..[:/] and maybe this time of the year....

but WARM,,, even HOT ... in terms of the Vibe, the camaraderie, the shared knowledge, the weekly BBQ dinners, and the love that floats around the place...

"wild" bill??..... hahahah normiss.. !!!
well I KNOW (at least ) a couple of
' wild Bills' ;)....here and there...
but yeah there IS one o' those , there too.... :o:D

as well as a good handful of OTHER "notorious" and 'infamous' characters.....
every DZ needs at least a half a dozen or so......of such types...
The stories we could Tell!!!:oB|;):$:$

It is in fact home of "wild' Bill- I just got off the phone from wishing him Merry Christmas.

Jimmy- Kirsta had the photo you took of our RW dive framed for a christmas present- thanks - you're GOOD PEOPLE.

To OP- Finger Lakes is a small 182 DZ- got a couple of them. Kinger has had other aircraft but has found the 182 the best fit with up jumpers- tandems- students - and profit. He's been running the place 26 years. I do tandems there and feel safety is #1 priority. Also one of the most scenic drop zones you'll ever see.

We are a close knit group- and once you jump with us - you are part of that group too. Stop by and see us.

i guess i could look in the directory, but where is finger lakes--someplace up north by reference to the cold--

i also notice that the initiator of this thread has not responded to the positive stories about this dz so it certainly could lead one to conjecture that their motivation is nefarious--a lawyer with too much time on his (or her) hands?:S

it's in New york state

the finger lakes are a series of parallel fresh water lakes,,, formed by retreating ice slabs, during the most recent 'ice age'...they range in length up to 50 or 60 miles, and in width up to 10 - 12 miles... not sure but there could be maybe a dozen of them.... North to south travel in the area is not an issue,, but east to west can be a pain, as it's necessary to drive all the way to the north or south end,, in order to reach a place that could be only 15 miles away,,,, as the bird flies...

very popular for summertime water activities, and winter time ice fishing.. Many of the lakes have year round homes along the shorelines.
but some of the lakes are designated as drinking water reservoirs...so NO houses...

The OP did PM me, and his intent is NOT nefarious... we communicated and there's no mystery AT ALL here...

trust me...
