viperz42 0 #1 January 28, 2009 Hello all, My name is Greg and I am a native of the USA on study abroad in Barcelona, Spain for the semester. I have always dreamed of skydiving, and now that I have all of Europe as my playpen, I can't wait to give it a try! The basics: -I am looking to drop somewhere in Europe between now and June 1 -I seek your expert advice on WHERE and WHEN to jump (Tandem of course) for my first jump- somewhere truly extraordinary! I will be going with some friends who would like to join and make a weekend out of it if possible; so if the jump site is near a cool town/city, that would be great. If you have a specific recommendation of a company to use, that would be much appreciated as well! Thank you in advance! -Greg PS Some of my friends have recommended Interlaken in Switzerland- any feedback?
wmw999 2,452 #2 January 28, 2009 Empuriabrava is close to Barcelona, and it's one of the biggest and busiest destination DZs in Europe. I.e. people plan their skydiving vacations just to go there. Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. dragon2 2 #3 January 30, 2009 Another vote for Empuria. clicky QuoteTandem of course Why the "of course"? Why not do the first jump course (1 day generally) and jump yourself? ciel bleu, Saskia
viperz42 0 #4 January 30, 2009 Great- thanks for the feedback! Just to let you know, I do plan on exploring the rest of Europe, so I'm willing to go anywhere in Europe to sky dive; distance from Spain is not an issue. Is there any reason that Empuriabrava stands apart from the rest? For example, the reason my friends recommended the Alps was that it was very scenic. What makes Empuriabrava so good? Thanks! dragon2 2 #5 January 30, 2009 It's big, always open, nice scenery with the bay, nice airplanes, nice surroundings (night life, go kart, ...) and mostly it usually has excellent weather, except for some wind (eh, lot of wind) sometimes. The weather there is usually much better than more North, so for a skydiving holiday you have much better chances of actually jumping. ciel bleu, Saskia
