spidermitch 0 #1 June 15, 2009 Howdy all! I'm in the investigation phase of finding a place to try my first jump. I found some great reviews here for a few places in Oregon, but one facility I cannot find anything on: Oregon Skydiving (not to be confused with Skydive Oregon). Looking closer at the site, and then doing some web surfing, I can see that it appears to be a very--what's the word--cookie cutter style site. In other words, there is a Skydiving Alabama site which is the same, save the state name. Arizona, etc.. Probably one for every state, who knows. My main question is if anyone can speak about this "franchise", or might have better information? The site is oregonskydiving.com. However, the contact for corporate is in Kennesaw, GA. FWIW, I'm leaning towards Eugene Skydivers based on reviews I've read. Thanks to anyone who can shed a little light on my preliminary research. Cheers! NWFlyer 2 #2 June 15, 2009 It's a "booking service" called 1-800-Skyride. It's not an actual dropzone. http://www.funjumper.com/skyride/ Check the dropzone listings here or on the USPA web site (www.uspa.org). As for specifics on the legitimate Oregon dropzones, you may want to call Eugene Skydivers to get their current status update. It's a great little dropzone that has (unfortunately) had a number of issues with the city council. I believe that was resolved recently, but it would behoove you to double-check."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
spidermitch 0 #3 June 15, 2009 @NWFlyer: Wow! Thanks for the quick response. I had a feeling it was some sort of service aggregator or something. Thanks for clarifying. I took your advice and USPA lists Eugene as a DZ, so next I'll give them a call. Thanks again!
voilsb 1 #4 June 16, 2009 These are the 4 I know of in Oregon: Eugene Skydivers Creswell, OR Review Skydive Oregon Molalla, OR Review Central Oregon Sky Sports Madras, OR Review Skydive Eagle Creek (no web page) Eagle Creek, OR Review The first two are USPA dropzones, the last two are not. I have physically been to the first two, and have actually jumped at Skydive Oregon. I'm pretty sure Central Oregon Sky Sports still exists, but have no idea about Eagle Creek. You can find out where it's physically at by searching google maps for "skydive near:eagle creek, or" Good luck, and don't forget to have fun!Brian
tetra316 0 #5 June 16, 2009 Both Madras and Eagle Creek are a definitely call before you go place. I've been to both, although not recently. I've heard they are both kind of winding down but still jump. It you just want a tandem either Eugene or Skydive Oregon are great places. If you are looking to continue into AFF then go to Skydive Oregon. Due to the issues with the city council and where they have to land, Eugene cannot train new students. They just do tandems and experienced jumpers.
spidermitch 0 #6 June 16, 2009 Thanks again everybody. I was only able to leave a msg at Eugene Skydivers, so we'll see if they get back to me. Admittedly, judging from information on the respective websites, Eugene had some appeal as they don't indicate a tandem jump requirement before entering the AFF program. Skydive Oregon did, so I was a little more amped to make the drive to Eugene. Of course, with what tetra says, that sounds like a moot point. Thanks again! As of March of this year (Last time I talked with Urban (the DZO)) Eugene Skydivers was only doing Tandems... no more fun jumpers either. Sad because I jumped with them last year while visiting my parents in Cottage Grove. BTW they are located in Creswell and not actually in Eugene. As for Skydive Oregon, I have been there but didn't get the chance to jump. Great facilities and a private air field, nice people. I highly recommend them. toolbox 0 #8 June 17, 2009 Skydive oregon is one of the best dropzones in the country for a beginner or an expert. They have world class instructors, excellent gear, and very well maintained turboprop aircraft that will get you to 13000ft lickity split. Skydive oregon is a private airport dedicated to skydiving, and has a huge grass landing area that is just what you need when learning how to pilot a parachute.
