poolmarty 0 #1 January 27, 2010 I recently had a non jumping friend attend a boogie with me and on the drive home she wondered if it would be possible to have a ‘Balloon Boogie’? She works for the state DNR and wants to present the idea to them for a balloon festival they have every year. She thinks it may boost attendance to the event. So it would be a state sponsored event. I personally have never jumped from a balloon. The festival is held on an island so the possibility for off water landings is possible… So I would like your thoughts on the idea, suggestions, etc. Here are some questions to start with. How willing would balloon operators be and what fees and licenses (B+) would they expect? What would you be willing to pay? How far would you travel for an event like this? FAR and SIM issues? Anything else you all may think of would be good to know. Thank you in advance.

The_Don 0 #3 January 28, 2010 I may be wrong, but it sounds like the festival is held on the island anyway. The jumping part is the only thing new?I am NOT being loud. I'm being enthusiastic!

Issues I see are: -Balloon pilots are a strange breed. Most will not fly jumpers. -Most people are not going to pay to do multiple balloon jumps unless you make them cheap. -Most people are also not going to want to get their gear wet. You don't want to open the can of worms about the FARs.
poolmarty 0 #5 January 28, 2010 Yes jumping would be the only thing new. It is a large island, but I needed to mention the possibility of landing off. The few Dz's I have been to have less landing area than what could be provided here and to be quite honest you wouldn't want get your gear wet in this lake anyway, since it is the Salt Lake... Thanks for that info CSpenseFLY. Those are some things I can pass on to her. A limited idea may be the best possibility if there is any at all. I would like to hear more info positive and negative. Thanks again
virgin-burner 1 #6 January 29, 2010 on balloon-jumps, you land "off" most times; so no big deal.. balloons are fun to jump out off; and the ba-loonys i know are pretty cool people.. “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S.
